Bowling Green, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University volleyball program went four sets with Akron, falling in a 3-1 final. After starting down 2-0, the Falcons surged for a third set victory to force a fourth set, but the Zips locked down the match, winning the fourth set. Of the four sets, both the third and fourth needed extra points to decide a winner. The loss moves Bowling Green's MAC standing to 2-1 with an 8-7 overall record.

Next Home Match: Bowling Green will return to the Stroh Center on Oct. 5 to take on Buffalo. Tickets for that game, and all BGSU home matches, can be purchased HERE.

Play-By-Play Notes

The first set remained close throughout the set with neither team able to create a deficit, seeing multiple ties along the way.
The Zips closed out the set with two points to claim the first set and progress to a 1-0 lead.
The second set saw more of the same between the Falcons and Zips with the score remaining within only a few points for the majority of the set before Akron won the set by a score of 25-20.
In the third set, the Falcons overcame adversity with a 4-0 run to put them right back in the set. From there, the Orange and Brown battled back from being down 23-20 to win the set with extra points at 26-24.
The fourth set once again needed extra points as the match was close throughout the duration of the night. Akron would edge out a 28-26 set win to claim the match with a 3-1 final score.

Strong Individual Performances

With four block assists on the night, Katie Kidwell moved into the Top 10 all-time for career block assists, now with 283. Kidwell surpasses Carlyn Esslinger on the list, who tallied 280 from 1992-95. The next step for Kidwell will be the 303 mark, set by Caty Rommeck from 1999-01.
Jacqueline Askin led the Falcons in kills, logging 15 over the course of the match. Petra Indrova also hit double-digit kills with 10.
Hanna Laube and Isabelle Marciniak each saw action at the setter position during the match. Laube led the stat sheet in assists with 22 while Marciniak had 18.
Julia Walz was atop the digs column of the stat sheet for Bowling Green, registering 27 over the four sets.
As for service aces, BGSU totaled six, led by Kerstie Shaw with three.

Up Next

The Falcons will be back at home on Saturday with the match beginning at 5 p.m. The match will serve as Heroes Day at the Stroh Center with the first 100 fans receiving a Freddie Falcon Military Bobblehead. Additionally, all Military, EMS, Police and Firefighters will receive a free ticket to the match. Following the match will also be player autographs.
Next week, the Orange and Brown will travel to take on Miami and Western Michigan. The match against Miami will take place on Thursday (Oct. 10) with a 7 p.m. first serve in Oxford. As for Western Michigan, the match will take place on Saturday (Oct. 12) and begin at 5 p.m.
