Walz Earns Conference Recognition For Second Time
October 07, 2019 | Volleyball
Cleveland, Ohio - The Mid-American Conference announced Monday (Oct. 7) evening the MAC Honors for volleyball for the past week of competition. Of those named, Bowling Green sophomore Julia Walz claimed the East Division recognition for MAC Defensive Player of the Week. This comes after the Falcons completed a 1-1 weekend, topping Buffalo 3-0 on Saturday and falling to Akron, 3-1, on Friday. This marks the second time this season Walz has been named, after she was also named following Week 4 when the Falcons went 1-1 at the Queen City Classic.
FULL MAC RELEASE
Walz led the Falcons in digs over both matches this past weekend. Totaling 14 digs on Friday and 27 on Saturday, Walz brings her season mark to 322, putting her just 176 away from entering the Top 10 all-time for single season digs. With 12 matches remaining in the regular season, Walz needs to average just over 14 digs a match to reach the milestone. Having played 16 matches so far, she is currently averaging over 20 digs a match.
The Orange and Brown will return to action on Thursday (Oct. 10) when they travel to Oxford, Ohio to take on Miami with a scheduled 7 p.m. first serve. From there, the team will move north to Kalamazoo, Mich. to face Western Michigan with a 5 p.m. start time. The Falcons will enter the weekend with a 3-1 MAC standing while being 9-7 overall.
Next Home Match: Bowling Green will return to the Stroh Center on Oct. 18 to take on Central Michigan. Tickets for that game, and all BGSU home matches, can be purchased HERE.
