Men's golf adds another Canadian to 2019-20 class
The Bowling Green State University men's golf team and head coach John Powers have announced the signing of Canadian student-athlete in Evan MacLean.Â
MacLeon is a native of Sudbury, Ontario, Canada and is currently a sophomore at Parkland Community College. As a freshman, helped his team to a fitth-place finish at the 2019 NJCAA Championships. Finishing the season with the second-lowest stroke average on the team at 74.7, he opened his career with a win at the Purgatory Invite, shooting a 5-under par 67. For his efforts, he earned a spot on the All-Conference and All-Region Teams. MacLean wasted no time this fall, setting a new career low en route to an individual win in his first tournament with scores of 66-71. His 73.6 fall average contributed to three team wins, one second and one third-place finish. During this past summer, he finished 38th in the Ontario Men's Amateur, earning a spot in the Canadian National Amateur Championship. While at BGSU, MacLean intends to earn a degree in Business before pursuing a law degree after graduation.
Coach Powers Quote:
"Evan brings some great experience to our team with college reps under his belt already. He knows how to go low and has been in contention quite a bit at Parkland. Evan is a very motivated person who has kept improving at every stage of his career. He has high goals for himself, both on and off the course, and I am looking forward to what is in store for him at BGSU."
The men's program is coming off of a fall season in which they won their first tournament since 2017 in the Tom Tontimonia Invitational. Rodrigue Viealso claimed a title as an individual. The team will kick off their spring season on Feb. 10 in Dade City, Florida. The Falcons have seven total spring events.
