December 16, 2019 | General, Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball
Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Jet's Pizza Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are men's basketball player Daeqwon Plowden and women's basketball player Kadie Hempfling.
Male Athlete of the Week
Daeqwon Plowden, a junior from Philadelphia, Pa., led the Falcons to a 72-58 win over Cleveland State on Sunday evening at the Stroh Center. For the second-straight contest, Plowden tied a career high with 23 points. The junior was unbelievably efficient from the floor, as he went 11-of-13 (84.6 percent), including a 1-for-2 mark from downtown. His career-high 11 field goals surpassed his previous career high by two buckets. The native of Philadelphia posted four rebounds, two steals and two blocks, as well. Over his last two games, Plowden is 20-of-26 (76.9 percent) from the field.
Female Athlete of the Week
Kadie Hempfling, a sophomore from Ottawa, Ohio, scored a season-high 18 points in the team's 63-51 win at Milwaukee. She made a career-best eight field goals and also had six rebounds and a pair of assists in the victory. Hempfling had a plus/minus rating of +16 in the win over the Panthers, the highest rating of any player who saw action. With the Panthers within seven points in the fourth quarter, Hempfling scored the game's next five points, blowing past her defender for a layup, then hitting a three-pointer from the top of the arc for a 12-point lead with just under two minutes to go.
