BGSU Tallies 10th Win Before Holiday Break For First Time Since 1947-48; Fourth Time In Program History

Six Falcons Score Double-Digits, Led By Shackelford’s 21
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team bested the Siena Heights Saints Monday (Dec. 22) inside the Stroh Center, 125-66. The win marks the 10th of the season for the Falcons, the fourth time in program history with 10 wins before the holiday break and the first time since 1947-48. The win also marks the fourth straight for Bowling Green, their longest winning streak of the season. After a brief break, the 10-3 Falcons will resume MAC play on Dec. 30 against undefeated Miami (OH) with a 7 p.m. tip inside the Stroh Center.Â
Josiah Shackelford led BGSU's scorers with 21 points, including a season-high five three-pointers, his second 20-point game of the season. Shackelford was one of six Falcons to register double-digit points with a total of 13 different Falcons registering a tally in the scoring column. As a team, Bowling Green shot 58.8-percent from the field, the fifth time this season BGSU has shot above 50-percent in a game and the third time in the last four contests.Â

QUOTE FROM COACH SIMON
"Really happy with our performance. You see a lot of letdown games right before break and what not, especially coming off a big win. I thought our energy and effort level was on 100-percent and they shared the ball; 27 assists to nine turnovers is really disciplined. Especially when you get a little bit of a lead, you can start taking crazy risks and I don't think they did that. Our point guard leadership, between Javontae [Campbell], [Javon] Ruffin and [Justin Thomas] and then [Jason] Kimbrough Jr., were really good at that position; 20 assists to four turnovers out of that position was really good. It was good to see our four-headed monster at the five go for 30 [points] and 11 [rebounds]. Those guys all have been playing really good, played really good at Ohio and the rotation was good again today."

Layups from Javontae Campbell and Camden Karel kept the scoring going for a 22-10 advantage. Siena Heights made a jumper, but a 5-0 run followed with a Javon Ruffin three and Thomas layup, forcing a Saints timeout with a 27-12 BGSU lead.
