BGSU Swimming And Diving Comes Up Short Against Akron

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University swimming and diving program came up just short, losing 140-100 to Akron. The Falcons made a late surge, but were held off in the end. Once again, Talisa Lemke led the Falcons, totaling 18 points for the second consecutive meet. The loss moves Bowling Green to 7-4 on the season, with a 1-2 showing in MAC competition.

The Falcons will continue their MAC play Friday, Feb. 1 when they travel to Buffalo for another dual meet, starting at 4 p.m. The two MAC rivals last met in 2016-17, with BGSU coming up just short to the Bulls, 187-113. Buffalo will enter the contest with a 1-4 record, including being 0-2 within the MAC. On the course of this season, they have lost to Akron and Eastern Michigan, with their lone win coming against Duquesne. This will be the Bulls' final meet prior to the MAC Championships.

First Place Falcons
- Talisa Lemke once again came away with a first place finish in the 3-meter dive event. She was earned nine points for the Falcons with a score of 320.10.
- Daisy Platts came away with the first Falcons first place finish in a swimming event for the meet, winning the 200 Backstroke with a time of 1:59.04, claiming nine points for BGSU.
- In the following event, Kellie House kept the momentum rolling along for Bowling Green taking first place in the 500 Freestyle with a time of 5:06.29
- The Falcons won their third consecutive event when Lemke won the 1-meter dive event, bring her total to 18 points on the evening. This is the second consecutive meet that Lemke has won both dive events after she did the same against Eastern Michigan.
Other Top Performances
- The meet began with the 400 Medley Relay, where the team of Platts, Nikki Borgerding, Sarah Hennings, and Anna Eriksson opened the competition with a second place finish.
- Platts continued her strong performance with another second place finish, this time solo, finishing the 200 Freestyle with a time of 1:54.18
- Hennings added another runner-up finish for the Falcons, coming in second in the 200 Butterfly with a time of 2:06.57
- Bowling Green captured second, third, and fourth in the 100 Freestyle with Franziska Wohlert (52.29), Ashleigh Franks (53.64) and Shaunna Jones (53.97) concluding respectively.
- In the 200 Breaststroke, Bowling Green took second, third, fourth, and fifth. The finishers for the Falcons were Borgerding (2:24.56), Emily Verbrugge (2:26.63), Kristen Puthoff (2:33.18) and Kasie Perretta (2:33.63).
- In the meet's final event, the 200 Freestyle Relay, BGSU had teams finishing in second, third, and fourth.
