Turner, Cecil Named Jet's Athletes Of The Week

Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Jet's Pizza Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are men's basketball player Justin Turner and women's basketball player Andrea Cecil.
Male Athlete of the Week
Justin Turner, a redshirt sophomore from Detroit, Mich., by averaging 27.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.0 steals, led the Falcons to a 2-0 week with wins over Central Michigan (Feb. 12) and Northern Illinois (Feb. 16). The redshirt sophomore guard shot 61.5 percent (16-of-26) on the week, including a 5-for-9 (55.5 percent) mark from downtown. After a 20-point, six-rebound, three-assist effort in a come-from-behind win over Central Michigan, Turner led BGSU to a wire-to-wire win at NIU. The Detroit native scored a career-high 34 points on 10-of-14 (4-of-5 from three) shooting, while also adding seven rebounds and four assists. Turner has scored 978 points in just 60 career games.
Female Athlete of the Week
Andrea Cecil, a junior from Oak Harbor, Ohio, led the Falcons in scoring and rebounding last week, with 21.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. She shot 68.2% from the field, going 15-for-22, and hit 4-of-6 three-pointers (66.7%). Cecil also averaged 3.0 assists per game and shot 81.8% (9-for-11) from the free-throw line. On Wednesday, Cecil led the Falcons and tied for game honors with 26 points as the Falcons led from wire to wire en route to an upset win over Buffalo, 78-72, at the Stroh Center. Cecil shot 10-for-15 from the field, and had seven assists and a career-high five assists in addition to those 26 points. Then, On Saturday, Cecil battled foul trouble, but had 17 points in just 20 minutes vs. Kent State. She added six rebounds, and went 5-for-7 from the floor and 6-of-7 from the stripe. Cecil drew a foul and made a pair of pressure-packed free throws to tie the game at 73-73 with 16.7 seconds to go. She had eight points in the fourth period as BG battled back from a 13-point deficit with under six minutes left in the game to tie the score, before KSU hit two late free throws to take the lead.Â
