Beckford Joins Falcons After Freshman Season At South Florida
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University men's basketball program and head coach Todd Simon announced the signing of transfer wing Tristan Beckford. A 6-foot-7 rising sophomore, Beckford arrives in Bowling Green after beginning his collegiate career at South Florida this past season. A former four-star recruit out of high school, Beckford appeared in 21 games for USF after being widely regarded as the top Canadian prospect in the class of 2025.
During his freshman season, Beckford played in 21 games with one start, coming against Alabama on Dec. 17. Beckford's best game of the year came against the College of Charleston, scoring 17 points with nine rebounds, just shy of a double-double, over 28 minutes of action to earn American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week honors. For the season, Beckford totaled 55 points while shooting 48.6-percent from the field and 72.7-percent from the free throw line. He wrapped up his stat line with 36 rebounds, six assists, five steals and four blocks while averaging 7.3 minutes per game.
A native of Maple, Ontario, Beckford attended Fort Erie International Academy where he earned a four-star ranking coming out of high school. Beckford also played in the 2024 FIBA U18 AmeriCup, aiding Team Canada to a bronze medal. He was named the Toyota Canada Player of the Week during the AmeriCup, leading the team with 13.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. He also shot 44.4-percent during the AmeriCup and posted a game-high 17 points against Venezuela as well as a double-double against Brazil with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
"Tristan is an incredible athlete that is just scratching the surface of how good he can be," said Simon. "Defensively he has the traits to be a lockdown defender and offensively he is quick, physical and can finish above the rim. He has played at a high level internationally, in prep school and being a part of a NCAA tournament team. His growth mindset makes him a candidate to flourish in our system."
