Swim And Dive Close Day One Of MAC Championships In Fourth

AKRON, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University swimming and diving program kicked off the 2019 Mid-American Conference Championships on Wednesday (Feb. 27) in Akron, Ohio. The first day consisted of eight events, with many serving as qualifiers. When the water settled at the end of the day, the Falcons found themselves tied for fourth with Miami, each having 58 points.

Falcon Finishes
- The BGSU relay team of Daisy Platts, Nikki Borgerding, Sarah Hennings, and Anna Eriksson started the day off in the 200 Medley Relay. Their time of 1:40.15 was fast enough for a fourth place finish, claiming 30 points for the Falcons.
- For the 800 Freestyle Relay, Bowling Green's team of Platts, Emily Verbrugge, Maddy Andrews and Franziska Wohlert registered a time of 7:22.37, giving them a fifth place finish and an additional 28 points.
- In a time trial for the 100 Freestyle, Lauren Sullivan swam a 51.50 as the lone participant in the event.

Other Highlights
- The Falcons nearly broke a school record in the 200 Medley Relay. The finishing time of 1:40.15 was less than a second off of the program record. Currently the record belongs to the team of Skorupski, Carrillo, Bullock and Effinger with a time of 1:39.26 set in 2016.
- In the 200 Medley Relay, Akron's placed first with a time of 1:36.28, earning them an automatic bid at the NCAA Championships, breaking the 1:36.75 threshold.
