Justin Turner To Return For Junior Season
May 28, 2019 | Men's Basketball
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Justin Turner, a First Team All-MAC guard on the Bowling Green State University men's basketball team, has withdrawn his name from the 2019 NBA Draft and is set to return for his redshirt-junior season in 2019-20. On April 22, Turner declared for the 2019 NBA Draft, but kept the option open to return to school.
Turner, the only returning First Team All-Conference player in the MAC, is coming off a historic sophomore season in the Orange and Brown. The native of Detroit became the first BGSU sophomore to earn First Team All-MAC honors since Cornelius Cash in 1972-73. Turner averaged 18.2 points per game, which ranked fourth in the MAC and second among returning players.
The first player in program history to score 1,000 career points before reaching junior-year eligibility, Turner currently ranks 35th in program history in career scoring with 1,126 points. Turner scored 619 points in 2018-19, which ranks sixth all-time in BGSU men's basketball history. After scoring 20 points 10 times as a freshman, Turner posted 20-plus points a total of 16 times in 2018-19.
Turner led Bowling Green in 2018-19 in total points (619), assists (105) and steals (47), becoming the first player since Michael Huger in 1991-92 to lead the Falcons in all three categories in the same season. Turner was the first Falcon since Antonio Daniels in 1996-97 to register over 600 points and 100 assists in a single season.
Turner will be one of four returning starters, and one of 10 returning players for Bowling Green in 2019-20. The Falcons are coming off a 22-12 campaign last season – BGSU's first 22-win season in 17 years. Bowling Green won 12 MAC regular-season games for just the seventh time in program history, and played in the MAC Championship Game for the fourth time in Falcon men's basketball history.

STATEMENT FROM HEAD COACH MICHAEL HUGER
"I'm excited about Justin's decision to return to Bowling Green. Justin has been a key piece of our building process, and a vital part of our team. While he's already excelled in many ways, Justin will be able to use the NBA Draft process to grow his game even further. This experience will help Justin and the rest of our team, as we chase our goal of winning a MAC Championship to get BGSU back to the NCAA Tournament. The feedback he received will also give him the framework to achieve his goal of one day being an NBA player. I'm proud of Justin for handling this process in a professional manner, and look forward to supporting him and the rest of our team as they all chase their dreams."
