BGSU Beats Robert Morris, 2-0, for First Win of Young Season

Falcons get goals from Iverson & Brennan, clean sheet from Mwembia & the back line
The Bowling Green State University men's soccer team won its first game of the 2019 campaign with a 2-0 win over Robert Morris University Sunday (Sept. 1) afternoon. The non-conference match was held at the North Athletic Complex.
Freshman Colin Iverson, in his second collegiate game, scored his first goal of his collegiate career in the seventh minute of the match. Junior Achille Robin recorded the assist on the goal.Â
Senior Chris Brennan netted his first goal of the 2019 season in the 44th minute, capitalizing off an errant pass from the Robert Morris goalkeeper.
BGSU senior 'keeper Anthony Mwembia recorded his first clean sheet of the season recording one save. Through two matches this year he has allowed just one goal and has posted a total of five saves, playing all 200 minutes thus far.Â

The Falcons are now 1-0-1 on the young season and will again be on the road next weekend when they play Wisconsin and Northwestern September 6Â and 8, respectively, in Evanston, Ill.

- The Falcons were on top of the shots and shots on goal category vs. Robert Morris recording 15 shots and eight shots on goal. Robert Morris had eight shots with one on goal. This is the second time in as many games that BG was on top in both categories.Â
- BG edged RMU in corner kicks 7-6.Â
- RMU had 17 fouls to BG's 11. RMU had two yellow cards with BG having one.Â

HOW IT HAPPENED
4'| Kale Nichols and Chris Brennan traded passes that resulted in Nichols putting the ball in the back of the net, but BG was ruled offside on the play.
7'| GOAL, Colin Iverson knocked a ball home after a Chris Sullivan corner kick. Charlie Maciejewski put the ball into the center of the penalty area, and Achille Robin initially headed the ball to the RMU 'keeper but after he fumbled the ball Iverson put it into the back of the net.
27'| Chris Brennan sent a rocket that hit off the bar after taking a shot just inside the box.
43'| Achille Robin deflected an RMU corner kick away from the BG goal on one of the lone Robert Morris threats of the first half.
44'| GOAL, after an errant pass from the Robert Morris goalkeeper, Brennan took a strike from outside of the box on the right side of the net to make it 2-0 BG.
65'| The Colonials fired a strike from distance, but the ball went over the bar for RMU's first threat of the second half.
75'| An impressive feat of dribbling put Zach Buescher around three different RMU defenders before the junior eventually was fouled. Brennan took the ensuing free kick, which was tipped over the bar by the RMU goalkeeper.

WHAT'S NEXT?
The Falcons will hit the road again next weekend and play two Big Ten opponents in Northwestern and Wisconsin. BG will play Wisconsin on Friday (Sept. 6) at 6:00 p.m. ET and Northwestern on Sunday (Sept. 8) at 5 p.m. ET. Both matches will be played on the NU campus in Evanston, Ill.
