Redshirt junior earns conference weekly honor after two-goal match at MSU
Bowling Green State University women's soccer standout Nikki Cox has been named the Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon (Sept. 17). Cox earns the honor for the first time in her BGSU career.
Cox, a native of Granville, Ohio (Granville H.S.), scored both of BGSU's goals in Thursday's match at Michigan State. The redshirt junior scored those two goals exactly six minutes apart in the first half to give the Falcons a 2-1 lead. It marked her second multiple-goal game as a Falcon, and was the third multi-goal match of the UNC-Wilmington transfer's collegiate career. Cox had five shots vs. the Spartans and six on the week.
The two goals gave Cox 28 points in 28 career matches with the Falcons, and she leads the team in scoring this season with nine points. Cox is tied for the BGSU lead in both goals and assists, with three of each.
The Falcons head to Morgantown this weekend, wrapping up the non-conference schedule with a Sunday (Sept. 22) matchup vs. West Virginia University. Then, the Brown and Orange will return home to begin the Mid-American Conference slate by hosting the University of Akron on Friday, Sept. 27. Admission to all BGSU regular-season home soccer matches is free.
