FALCONS PICKED FIRST IN MAC EAST
Two of the magazines – Blue Ribbon and Athlon – picked Bowling Green to finish in first place in the MAC East. Lindy's placed Buffalo in first place in its preseason outlook, while having BGSU in second place. The Falcons went 12-6 in conference play a season ago to finish in second place. BGSU won 12-plus conference games in the regular season for just the seventh time in school history in 2018-19. Additionally, Street & Smith's magazine picked the Falcons to win the division, as well.
TURNER TABBED AS UNANIMOUS PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Athlon, Blue Ribbon and Lindy's have all named redshirt-junior guard Justin Turner the preseason Mid-American Conference Player of the Year. The only returning First Team All-Conference player from a season ago in 2018-19, Turner became the first BGSU sophomore since Cornelius Cash in 1972-73 to earn First Team All-MAC honors.
Turner averaged 18.2 points per game as a sophomore, which ranked fourth in the league and second among returning players. His 619 total points scored sits sixth all-time at Bowling Green for a single season. The native of Detroit led the Falcons in points (619), assists (105) and steals (47) in 2018-19, becoming the first BGSU player since Michael Huger in 1991-92 to lead the team in all three statistical categories.
FRYE AND TURNER NAMED TO PRESEASON ALL-MAC TEAMS
The three magazines included Turner and senior guard Dylan Frye on their preseason All-MAC lists. Turner was picked as a first team selection in all three publications, while Athlon Sports named Frye to its Second Team All-MAC squad.
The pairing of Turner and Frye is expected to be one of the more dynamic backcourts across mid-major basketball this season. Frye is on pace to shatter the program's three-point field goal record, as he needs to hit just 46 three-pointers to surpass John Reimold's (2002-05) mark.
Turner and Frye have already surpassed the 1,000-career point threshold. Turner has scored 1,126 points and ranks 36th all-time at Bowling Green, while Frye ranks 39th with 1,085 points.
LINDY'S TOP 150: TURNER ONE OF COLLEGE BASKETBALL'S ELITE GUARDS
Lindy's ranked the Top 150 players for the 2019-20 men's basketball season. Justin Turner was placed at No. 149 on the list. He is the only player from the Mid-American Conference that was selected.
