September 08, 2019 | Men's Soccer
Chris Sullivan’s three-point match, Mwembia & back line’s stellar play get BG to 3-0-1 on the season
The Bowling Green State University men's soccer team capped off their weekend in Chicago, and the Lakeside Classic, with a 3-0 victory over Northwestern University on Sunday (Sept. 8). The non-conference match was held at Lanny and Sharon Martin Stadium in Evanston, Ill.
With the victory, the Falcons improve to 3-0-1 on the young season.
The Falcons' trio of goals were scored by Chris Sullivan, Achille Robin and Charlie Maciejewski. For Robin and Maciejewski it was their first goals of the season. Sullivan scored his second goal of the campaign, as part of a three-point day. He and Chris Brennan each picked up an assist on the match.
Senior goalkeeper Anthony Mwembia kept his third consecutive clean sheet and 22nd of his career. Mwembia now has a stellar 0.24 goals-against average on the season. He and the defense have allowed just one goal on the season and didn't allow a single goal this weekend in 180 minutes of action against a pair of Big Ten Conference foes. Mwembia made three saves against the Wildcats.
QUOTING COACH ERIC NICHOLS
"This was a big weekend that anyone associated with the program can be extremely proud of. The boys weren't concerned with who they were playing, they just stayed dialed in to playing our brand of soccer."
