Jovannah East, Samantha Marion Earn MAC Weekly Honors

Cleveland, Ohio – Bowling Green State University senior Jovannah East (Zion, Ill. / Zion Benton Township) and junior Samantha Marion (Franklin Lakes, N.J. / Ramapo) have earned Mid-American Conference weekly honors for their performances in the season-opening meet against Eastern Michigan Saturday. East was named MAC Gymnast of the Week and Marion earned MAC Specialist of the Week honors.
East scored 39.300 to take the all-around competition, winning both the vault and floor along the way. She was third on bars and fourth on balance beam as well. Her all-around score was the 16th best in the country on opening weekend. She posted three scores of at least a 9.825 during the meet, posting a 9.875 on the floor exercise, as well as a 9.850 on vault, a 9.825 on balance beam and a team-best 9.750 on bars.
After spending two years on the sidelines with injuries for BGSU gymnastics, Samantha Marion made her collegiate debut Saturday on vault and beam. She was the beam co-champion with a score of 9.875 and finished second on vault at 9.825.
Bowling Green will head east this weekend as the Falcons will compete in a four-way meet at Rutgers Saturday at 2:00 pm. The Falcons will compete against Rutgers, No. 6 Minnesota and Ursinus.
