BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team opened its 2020-21 home schedule with a decisive 101-78 victory over South Carolina State University on Saturday (Nov. 28) afternoon. The non-conference contest was played inside the friendly confines of the Stroh Center. BGSU moves to 1-1 on the season with the victory.
The Falcons led by just two points at the break, but opened the second half on a 21-0 run to open up a 66-43 lead with 15:38 remaining in the ballgame. BGSU had five players score at least 13 points, led by senior forward Daeqwon Plowden's double-double. Plowden finished with 19 points and a career-high 16 rebounds. Plowden also tied his career high with three steals.
Trey Diggs (17 points), Justin Turner (16 points), Caleb Fields (15 points) and Kaden Metheny (13 points) also scored in double figures for the Orange and Brown.
TEAM NOTES
• Since 2018, Bowling Green has racked up a record of 28-4 at the Stroh Center. That record is good enough for a conference-leading .875 winning percentage. BGSU is 54-25 at home in the Michael Huger Era.
• The Orange and Brown moved to 95-48 at the Stroh Center all-time.
• The Falcons improved to 8-2 in home openers at the Stroh Center.

• BGSU went 31-for-36 (86.1 percent) at the free throw line. The 31 makes are the most for the program since making 34 free throws in a win over Kent State on Jan. 26, 2006.
• Bowling Green led by as many as 31 points with 6:16 left in regulation. BGSU led for 37:50 on the game's 40 minutes.
• The Falcons had more paint-points (40-32), second-chance points (18-7) and fast-break points (22-19).
• A total of 12 players entered the scoring column for the Orange and Brown.
PLAYER NOTES
• Senior forward Daeqwon Plowden registered the 12th double-double of his career, as he finished with a game-high 19 points and a career-high 16 rebounds. Plowden also posted two assists and tied a career high with three steals. Plowden led all players with an on-court rating of +35.
• Senior forward Trey Diggs added 17 points, marking the second time this season and 13th time in his BGSU career that he's finished with 10-plus points. Diggs went 8-for-9 from the free throw line, which marked career highs in both free throw makes and attempts.
• Diggs and freshman guard Kaden Metheny each went 3-for-6 from downtown. Metheny finished the game with a career-high 13 points on 3-of-7 shooting.
• Fifth-year senior guard Justin Turner flirted with a triple-double, finishing with 16 points, six assists and six rebounds. Turner, who has now scored 10-plus points a total of 82 times in his career, fell two assists shy of tying his career high (8 assists vs. Jacksonville on Nov. 11, 2019).
• Junior guard Caleb Fields added 15 points (5-of-7 FG) and tied his career high with five steals. The 15 points for Fields marked the most he's scored since pouring in 17 on the road at No. 22 LSU on Nov. 8, 2019.
• Each scoring four points for the Falcons were redshirt-sophomore Dylan Swingle, sophomore guard Davin Zeigler, freshman guard Josiah Fulcher and sophomore forward Chandler Turner. Newcomers Jacob Washington and Cam Young totaled two points apiece. Young and Fulcher scored the first points of their collegiate careers on the afternoon.
• Sophomore guard Isaac Elsasser went 1-for-2 at the charity stripe, marking his fifth-career point. Elsasser also recorded a career-high two rebounds. Freshman guard Jackson Watson made his collegiate debut, logging over two minutes of action.
