Dop, Gottshall Named Jet's Athletes Of The Week

Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Jet's Pizza Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are hockey goalie Eric Dop and softball pitcher Payton Gottshall.

Male Athlete of the Week

Picking up two wins between the pipes on the weekend, Eric Dop, a junior from Lewis Center, Ohio, made 42-of-44 saves as BGSU Hockey swept Ferris State over the weekend. Dop allowed the lone Ferris State goal with just over two minutes remaining Friday in a 6-1 win. On Saturday, Dop allowed an early goal but was able to keep the Bulldogs off the scoreboard again in a 3-1 win. Dop finished the weekend with a .955 save percentage and a 1.01 goals against average.

Female Athlete of the Week

Payton Gottshall, a freshman from Massillon, Ohio, went 4-0 with an ERA of just 0.71, and was named the tournament MVP as the Falcons went undefeated at the Tiger Classic in Nashville over the weekend. She allowed a total of two runs in 19 2/3 innings of work, seeing action in all four of BG's games and allowing opponents to bat just .111 against her. For the second-straight weekend, Gottshall pitched a complete-game one-hitter in the Falcons' opening game of the weekend, with 11 strikeouts in a win over the host school, Tennessee State. The next day, she came on in relief in the eighth inning of a tie game vs. CCSU. The Blue Devils had a runner on second with one out, and Gottshall struck out both batters she faced to retire the side. She picked up the win as BG walked it off in the bottom of the eighth. Then, that evening, she scattered four hits en route to the first shutout of her young career, an 8-0 victory over Rider in five innings. Gottshall allowed just one walk while striking out eight. On Sunday, she closed the weekend with a complete-game two-hitter in a 7-1 victory over Creighton. Gottshall again struck out eight while walking two.
