BGSU Athletics Celebrates 2019-20 With Virtual Ziggy Awards Show

Bowling Green, Ohio – The sixth annual Ziggy Awards were held Thursday evening as the department held a virtual awards show on Twitter as the event could not be held in-person due to the COVID-19 quarantine and stay-at-home order. BGSU Athletics honors and recognizes its 425 student-athletes and supporters of the department during the night. The Ziggy Awards follow in the tradition of the former Athletics Honors Night.

Anthony Mwembia, of the men's soccer team, and Talisa Lemke, of swimming and diving, earned the highest honor given to a BGSU student-athlete – The Falcon Medal of Honor. The award is given to one male and one female student-athlete who embody the essence of the qualities BGSU Athletics hold important for all student-athletes.
Chelsee Washington, who led BGSU women's soccer to back-to-back MAC Championships, was named the Female Athlete of the Year, while men's basketball's Justin Turner earned the Male Athlete of the Year award for the second consecutive season. Hockey's Frederic Letourneau and Lemke were named the department's Senior Scholar-Athletes of the Year.
Chris Sullivan, of the men's soccer team, and Madisen Parker, of women's basketball, earned the Junior Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards, while men's basketball's Trey Diggs and women's soccer's Kennedy White were the Newcomers of the Year. The Comeback Performance of the Year Award was given to men's basketball, for overcoming an 18-point deficit to defeat Ohio in the Stroh Center.
The hockey and tennis teams were recognized for having the highest team grade point averages in the department. Swimmer Lauren Sullivan was the Community Service Individual of the Year and her swimming and diving team was the Community Service Team of the Year.
