Wright, Hampton Named Medical Mutual Athletes Of The Week
January 04, 2021 | General, Ice Hockey, Women's Basketball
Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Medical Mutual Athletes of the Week, as selected by the strategic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are hockey player Cameron Wright and women's basketball player Nyla Hampton.
Male Athlete of the Week
Cameron Wright, a senior from Newmarket, Ontario, totaled four points over the last week as the Falcons went 3-0-0, picking up a non-conference win over Robert Morris and a sweep over Ferris State to begin WCHA play. In the first game against Ferris State, Wright totaled three points with two goals and one assist, including the game-winning goal. Wright followed up the performance with another goal on Saturday, again being the game-winning goal to account for both game-winners in the series against Ferris State.Â
Female Athlete of the Week
Nyla Hampton, a freshman from Huber Heights, Ohio, led BGSU to a 34-point road win over Ball State to improve to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in the MAC. She scored 18 points, the highest total of her young career. The win was the Falcons' largest MAC road victory in nearly nine years, since February of 2012. In addition to her point total, Hampton also had five rebounds and two steals, and she tied for game honors with four assists. She had 13 points in the third quarter alone, as BGSU scored 32 points – the program's highest-ever total for points in a quarter in a MAC road game.Â
