BGSU duo now sees their names added to the national ballot
A pair of Bowling Green State University women's soccer standouts have been named to the 2021 Academic All-District® Women's Soccer Team, selected by CoSIDA. Katie Cox and Audrey Shea each have been voted to the team.
The Academic All-District® Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Cox, a native of Granville, Ohio (Granville), has started all 20 matches this season, and has five points on a goal and three assists. The goal opened the scoring in BG's Mid-American Conference victory over Miami, and she is third on the Falcons in assists.
Cox has contributed at both ends of the field this season, helping BGSU outscore MAC opponents by a 23-6 count (regular-season and tournament matches). The junior midfielder has helped the Orange and Brown record nine shutouts in 13 total matches against conference competition.
In the classroom, Cox is a fashion merchandising & product development major with a perfect 4.00 cumulative grade-point average.
Shea, a native of Upper Arlington, Ohio (Bishop Watterson), was named to the All-MAC First Team this fall, after earning all-conference second-team honors in each of her first two seasons. The junior defender has helped BGSU record a team goals-against average of 1.01 this season to date, including a GAA of just 0.53 in MAC regular-season play.
Shea, who has played a team-leading 1,859 of BGSU's 1,872 total minutes this fall, has helped BG record six shutouts in the last seven matches. At the other end of the field, she is fourth on the team in scoring, with four goals and 10 points on the year. Those four goals include the game-winning score in a victory at Ball State.
In the classroom, Shea has a perfect 4.000 cumulative GPA as a biology major.
First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early December.
The CoSIDA Academic All-District® teams include the student-athletes listed on the following pages and are divided into geographic districts across the United States and Canada.
