Platts’ Record-Setting Weekend Not Enough To Push Falcons Ahead In Magnus Cup
November 20, 2021 | Women's Swimming & Diving
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University swimming team wrapped up their weekend in Cleveland State's Magnus Cup tonight (November 20), finishing fifth of eleven with a team score of 647.50. The highlight of the weekend, though, was Daisy Platts setting the Magnus Cup and BGSU record in the 100 backstroke.
The Falcons got off to a strong start on the first day of competition, initially clocking in at fourth place. The night started off with a fourth place finish in the 200 freestyle relay from the team of Daisy Platts, Gillian Boal, Elayna Krupp and Anna Eriksson. On the individual side, Moa Karlsson was victorious in her heat of the 500 freestyle. Platts and Livia Castro added second place finishes of their own in the 200 IM and 500 freestyle respectively. The brown and orange also had great success in the 50 breaststroke, placing three swimmers in the top five: Taylor Harris, Julianna Petrak and Martina Stefinec.
Day 2 kicked off with another successful Falcon relay, this time with the team of Platts, Harris, Eriksson and Krupp taking third in the 200 medley relay. Platts, however, stole the show for the day with her record-setting race in the 100 backstroke with a time of 52.75.
Finally, on Day 3, Platts again stole the show with a Magnus Cup record in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:55.01. In addition to Platts, Lily Kaiser won her heat of the 200 backstroke and Abigail Dolliver won her heat of the 200 breaststroke. Kellie House and Eriksson filled in the gaps for the Falcons, finishing third in the 1650 freestyle and fifth in the 50 butterfly respectively. Strong heat finishes from Riley McNichols, Krupp, and Petrak in the 100 freestyle, and Ava Vial in the 200 butterfly also helped keep the Falcons afloat as they headed down the stretch of the Magnus Cup.
Notable Falcon Finishes
"Both meets this weekend were good. We saw a lot of improvements, season best times and diving scores. We also saw a lot of areas we can build on for MACs. Our focus now is to continue to minimize our weaknesses and strengthen our strengths."
