Falcons Ground Rockets, Set BGSU Athletics Record For Best Start At 16-0

Toledo, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University volleyball program claimed a 3-1 win over the Toledo Rockets on Tuesday night (March 16) to advance to 16-0 on the season, setting the record for the best start to a season in BGSU Athletic department history. The Falcons also now stand one win away from tying the program record for consecutive wins at any point during the season, set at 17 by the 2006 squad. The Falcons will now turn their attention to a two-match home stand against Akron this coming weekend on Saturday and Sunday (March 19 and 20).Â

Play-By-Play Notes
- Early in the first set the Falcons put together pairs of points, including a 3-0 run, to create an 8-3 lead. Bowling Green continued to add to the lead up to a timeout from the UT bench with the score at 12-7.Â
- The Falcons continued to stretch the lead, growing to 17-9 before the next stoppage, being the Rockets' second timeout.Â
- The momentum for the Falcons carried through the set seeing a 25-15 final and a first set win for BGSU.Â
- The second began back-and-forth before the Falcons were able to create space just before the media timeout, taking a 15-12 lead into the break.Â
- It was only a handful of points before the next stoppage with the Rockets calling timeout with Bowling Green leading 18-15.Â
- The Falcons were able to carry the lead to the end, closing out the set with a 25-20 score, extending the team's lead.Â
- The third set began close as well, seeing a tie as late as 12-12, but a 6-0 run for the Rockets gave them an 18-12 lead.Â
- The Falcons soon began to chip away at the score seeing a UT timeout with the score at 19-16.Â
- The comeback effort for Bowling Green came up just shy with the Rockets forcing a fourth set.Â
- In the third set, UT began out in front, but a 5-0 run for the Falcons took the lead at 6-5 BGSU. The set remained close up to the media timeout with Bowling Green holding a narrow lead at 15-14.Â
- The Falcons then began to create space on the scoreboard, pushing the score to 20-17 before a Rocket timeout. That momentum carried through the remainder of the set as the Falcons clinched a 25-19 score to claim the victory.Â

- With the win, the Falcons move to 16-0 on the season, setting the BGSU Athletic department record for wins to begin a season, previously held by the 1964 men's tennis team at 15-0.
- The Falcons began the match with an impressive hitting percentage in the first set, ending with a .500 mark.Â
- A team effort led the way in almost every stat for Bowling Green. Beginning in kills, Katelyn Meyer logged a team-high 13, being one of six different Falcons to log at least two kills in the contest.Â
- Digs weren't much different on the stat sheet with Julia Walz registering a team-leading 13. She was joined in double-digits by Yelianiz Torres who had a career-high 10.Â
- A big part in the win for the Falcons was their presence at the net, knocking down a total of 15 team blocks. Six different Falcons had at least a block assist while Petra Indrova had a career-high two solo blocks.
- Leading the team in block assists, Katie Kidwell tallied six in the match, bringing her career total for block assists to 466, tying her with Lisa Berardinelli for fifth all-time in program history.Â
- With 37 assists, Hanna Laube topped the stat sheet for the category for Bowling Green in the win.Â
Up NextÂ
- Next up on the schedule for Bowling Green will be a series against Akron next week on Friday and Saturday (March 19 and 20). The first match is set for a 6 p.m. start while the second is scheduled for 5 p.m.Â
- The Falcons and Rockets will conclude their series next Tuesday (March 23) at the Stroh Center with a scheduled 6 p.m. start.Â
