Falcons Top Buffalo To Maintain Undefeated Home Record

PERRYSBURG, Ohio– The Bowling Green State University tennis program claimed a 5-2 victory over the Buffalo Bulls on Friday (March 19). The Falcons were able to snag the doubles point with wins on all three courts before taking four of the six singles points en route to the win. With the victory, the Orange and Brown move to 2-1 in MAC play while being 6-3 on the season. Bowling Green will return to the court on Sunday (March 21) as they travel north for the Battle of I-75.

Making Of The Match
- The Falcons began the day in doubles play with all three courts seeing nearly identical paths to victory. All three began with a 1-0 lead that turned into 6-2 finals for the Falcons.
- In singles play, the Falcons picked up another point with Selina Karg tallying her eighth singles win of her collegiate career with scores of 6-2 and 6-1, moving her to 8-0 this season.
- The next point for the match would also go to the Falcons seeing Marta Bettinelli pick up 6-0 and 6-4 finals. Bettinelli tallied 11 points while giving up just one over two sets before her opponent battled back late in the second. In the end, Bettinelli came away with the singles point to push the Falcons' lead to 3-0.
- Bowling Green would soon clinch the victory for the day with Ayumi Sasaki taking a singles win to push the score to 4-0 in favor of the Falcons. Sasaki led the length of the first set and much of the second as well.
- With the win secured, the Falcons saw Marharita-Sophia Tavpash add to the total with another singles win. After taking the first set, Tavpash battled back in the second from down 4-3 to win the set 6-4 and claim the point.
Falcon Stat Facts
- With a doubles win, Margarita-Sophia Tavpash moved up the all-time list, now at fifth in program history for career doubles wins with 81, passing Emily Reuland. Tavpash also moved up the singles all-time list, now tied with Polina Radeva for 22nd all-time with 61 career singles wins. The pair of wins also places Tavpash at 142 career combined wins, tied for 11th in program history with Samantha Kintzel.
- Ayumi Sasaki also made progress on the all-time lists, tying Susie Schoenberger for 28th all-time on the career doubles wins list with 53. Sasaki moved up the singles list as well with her 60th career singles win, tying her with Mary Hill for 24th in program history.
