BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team was defeated by Miami University on Tuesday (March 2), 84-79, in overtime. The Mid-American Conference game was played inside the Stroh Center. Prior to the game, BGSU recognized its three-man senior class of Trey Diggs, Daeqwon Plowden and Justin Turner.
Â
The Falcons appeared to have won the game in regulation, as junior guard Caleb Fields tipped home a layup with 0.2 seconds left on the clock, giving the Falcons a 76-74 lead. After a lengthy review, the call was upheld. However, the officials then huddled up a second time and changed their initial ruling, declaring that the shot was released after the buzzer.
Â
With the loss, the Falcons drop to 14-10 (10-8 MAC) on the campaign. Bowling Green is scheduled to wrap up the regular season with a home game versus Ohio on March 5 at 7 p.m.
Â
Bowling Green was led by a career night from senior forward Daeqwon Plowden, finishing with 19 points and a career-high 18 rebounds. Plowden moved into 10th place on the night in both career blocks (87) and rebounds (716) at BGSU.
Â
Fellow senior Trey Diggs scored 19 points, as well. Diggs drilled five three-pointers and also registered six rebounds. Fifth-year senior Justin Tuner contributed 16 points and four rebounds. Freshman guard Kaden Metheny (10 points) also scored in double figures for the Falcons.
COACH HUGER QUOTE
"Hard-fought game. I didn't think we played our best game tonight, and we still gave ourselves a chance to win the game. We came up short -- it is what it is. It's always tough going through the scenarios of the different things that happened. It is what it is."Â
