Platts Excels In Second Swim At National Championships

Greensboro, N.C. – Junior swimmer Daisy Platts completed her first NCAA Division I Swimming & Diving National Championship appearance Saturday morning, placing 24th in the 200 backstroke during the preliminary round of competition. The meet was held at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
Platts, who entered the meet seeded No. 36, swam 1:54.75 to exceed her seed spot by 12 places. That came just one day after finishing 21st in the 100 backstroke, a 16-spot improvement over her seed in that event. Her time was less than one second shy of earning an alternate spot to Saturday evening's finals (the top 18).
She finished second in her heat Saturday morning and came up just shy of her own school record, a time of 1:54.35 that she set earlier this year.
"I'm so proud of Daisy," head coach Rickey Perkins said. "To make it to the fastest swim meet in the world in such a short time is remarkable. She's an incredibly tough young lady."
The Bowling Green swim and dive team will return to competition to close out the regular season Saturday. The Falcons will compete at Akron at 1:00 pm in final preparations for the MAC Championships, which will take place April 15-17 at Eastern Michigan.
