Bowling Green Bests Miami, Moves To 5-0 At Home

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University tennis program found their way back into the win column on Sunday (March 28) with a 5-2 win over Miami. The RedHawks had to forfeit the No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles courts, giving the Falcons a quick advantage. From there, Bowling Green captured the doubles point as well as three more singles courts to claim the 5-2 win for the day. With the result, the Falcons move to 8-4 on the season while being 4-2 in MAC play. The Orange and Brown will return to the court this coming Friday (April 2) to host the second edition in the Battle of I-75 for this season.

Making Of The Match

Due to losing a player before the match, Miami had to forfeit No. 3 doubles, leaving the Falcons with just one match to win. The duo of Ayumi Sasaki and Ioanna Tsadari were able to capture that win with a 6-3 score to give Bowling Green the doubles point and the early advantage.
With Miami also having to forfeit a singles match, the Falcons lead soon grew to 2-0.
In singles play, Selina Karg claimed the next point for the Falcons. Karg played to a 6-2 first set score before dominating the second set with a 6-0 finish.
The Falcons were able to later clinch the win on the day with Yulia Kapitanova claiming a singles win to push Bowling Green's point total to four. Kapitanova jumped out to an early lead in the first set for a 6-3 win before battling from behind in the second to a 7-5 final.
Before the end of the day the Falcons added another singles point with Marharita-Sophia Tavpash logging a singles win. Tavpash battled back in the first set for a tough 7-6 win before running away with the second set at 6-1.

Falcon Stat Facts

Beginning the day with a doubles win, Ayumi Sasaki moved up the all-time doubles wins list, now with 54 career doubles wins. That mark ties her for 26th all-time with Ashley Jakupcin and Tisa Pacella.
With a singles win, Marharita-Sophia Tavpash moved up the all-time career singles wins list with the 64th of her career, tying her with Tracy Howitt and Katia Babina for 19th all-time.

Bowling Green will be back on their home courts this coming Friday (April 2) to host the second match in the Battle of I-75. The Falcons and Rockets last played to a 4-3 final in favor of the Orange and Brown.
