Falcons Top Central Michigan To Tie Program Record With 12-0 Start
March 04, 2021 | Volleyball
Mount Pleasant, Mich. - The Bowling Green State University volleyball program picked up their record-tying 12th straight win of the season on Thursday (March 4) with a 3-0 sweep over Central Michigan. The win puts the Falcons at 12-0 on the season, tying the record for the best start to a season in program history, matching that of the 2011 team. It is believed that this squad is just the fifth team in BGSU Athletics history to reach 12-0 or better. The win for Bowling Green came from an all-around team effort that filled the stat sheet. The Orange and Brown will look to continue the historic start tomorrow against Central Michigan as the two teams close out the series with a 12 p.m. start. The match is also set to be streamed on ESPN3.Â

- The second set saw more of the same from Bowling Green, again claiming an early five-point lead, this time at 9-4. The Chippewas fought to close the gap, but a 5-0 run later in the set formed a 23-13 advantage for the Falcons that served as enough to take the set at 25-17.
- The third set began a bit closer, but another 5-0 run for the Falcons pushed the lead to 11-5. Central eventually closed the gap to 13-10, but that was as close as they would get. The two teams continued to trade points for most of the set, but in the end it was a 25-20 win for Bowling Green.Â

Coach Tomic's Take
- "I am pleased to see our team continue to focus on things in our control and playing one point at a time. We always strive to get better, play as one, and play to win. I don't think today was our best offensive performance, but the credit has to be given to CMU's defense for affecting some of our hitters. There are a couple of other areas that we need to focus on and improve to meet our standards, so we look forward to competing again tomorrow."
