Falcons Historic Campaign Comes To A Close In NCAA Tournament

Omaha, Neb. - The Bowling Green State University volleyball saw their historic campaign come to a close on Wednesday night (April 14). After capturing the MAC Regular Season title and the MAC Tournament Championship, the Falcons competed in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2012. Facing Weber State, the Orange and Brown ended up on the short end of a 3-1 final. Despite the loss, the Falcons cap off a season that included the best start in BGSU Athletic Department history at 18-0, the most consecutive wins in program history at 18 and just the third NCAA Tournament bid in program history. The 22-2 record results in a .917 winning percentage which will go into the record book as the best season ever recorded in BGVB history.Â

Play-By-Play Notes
- The Falcons were ready early on with a quick 4-0 run to take a 4-1 lead in the match, including three kills by Jacqueline Askin. Weber State soon battled back, taking a 15-14 lead at the media timeout.Â
- Weber State would slowly add to their lead before taking the first set at 25-18.Â
- In the second set the Wildcats claimed a lead, but later a 4-0 run by the Falcons would cut that lead to just a single point at 11-10 to prompt a timeout from Weber State.Â
- The set would remain close with the teams trading points and having a tie as late as 20-20. A 4-0 run for the Falcons would grant Bowling Green a 23-20 lead.Â
- The run would create enough of a cushion for the Orange and Brown to even the match at one set each following a 25-22 score.Â
- The third set began in a similar manner, playing up to the media timeout which came at 15-14 in favor of the Falcons.Â
- The set remained close until the last point in which Weber State was on top at 25-22.Â
- In the fourth set, Weber State jumped to a 4-0 run that saw a Bowling Green timeout follow. Weber State created a lead in the set, but the Falcons chipped away late forcing a timeout with the score at 23-18. In the end it was Weber State at 25-21.Â
Falcon Stat FactsÂ
- Statistically, it was Julia Walz that paced the Falcons setting a new career-high for digs in a single match with 39. She was joined in the double-digits by Yelianiz Torres who registered 11.Â
- In total, the Falcons registered 77 digs over the four sets with five players having at least six seeing Kerstie Shaw with eight, Taylor Haberland with seven and Hanna Laube with six. Laube also led the way in assists with 40 over the course of the night, averaging 10 per set.Â
- On the attack, The Falcons saw a trio of players reach double-digits with Jacqueline Askin leading the way with 16 kills. Katelyn Meyer followed closely with 11 and Katie Kidwell was just behind her with 10 of her own.Â
- Katrin Trebichavska also provided a burst for the Falcons on the attack, entering during the second set and ending the night with nine kills and two block assists.Â
- As a team, Bowling Green logged seven team blocks. On the stat sheet it was Kidwell at the top with five block assists followed by Laube with three. Madelynn Luebcke had the team's lone solo block in addition to a block assist.Â
