Falcons Top Western Michigan For Second Win Of The Weekend

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University tennis program was able to pick up their second consecutive win on Sunday (April 18) with a 5-2 victory over Western Michigan. The Falcons began the day at the Bowling Green High School tennis courts and were able to tally the doubles point in addition to two singles points. With the score at 3-2 Bowling Green, the match moved to the Perrysburg Tennis Center due to weather. There the Falcons were able to tally two more singles points en route to the 5-2 final. With the win, the Orange and Brown move to 11-6 on the season while being 7-4 in the conference with three matches left to play.

Making Of The Match
- Beginning the day with doubles, the Falcons were able to claim the point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. No. 3 finished up first with the duo of Selina Karg and Hannah Neuman capturing a 6-3 win following a 3-0 start.
- The Falcons also saw a win at No. 2 doubles to clinch the point. The pair of Ayumi Sasaki and Ioanna Tsadari won a close 7-6 set to put the Falcons up 1-0 on the day.
- Moving to singles, the Falcons began the day with a win at No. 5 singles from Selina Karg. Karg allowed her opponent just one point over the course of the day with scores of 6-1 and 6-0. The point pushed the BGSU lead to 2-0.
- After Western Michigan tallied their first point of the day, Bowling Green answered with a win at No. 3 singles from Sasaki. Sasaki registered three straight points in the first set for a 6-2 win before taking the point with a 6-4 second set score, making the BGSU lead 3-1.
- The Falcons would later clinch the win for the day with another singles point, this one from Yulia Kapitanova at No. 4 singles, winning both sets by scores of 6-4. The win pushed the score to 4-2 BGSU.
- To close out the day, Marta Bettinelli added another point to the Falcons' tally. Splitting the first two sets, Bettinelli won the third to bring about the 5-2 final in favor of the Falcons.
Falcon Stat Facts
- For Ayumi Sasaki, the doubles win brings her career total to 58 doubles wins, tying her with Patty Bank for 25th all-time. Sasaki also had a singles win to move into sole possession of 20th all-time with 65 career singles wins. The pair of wins on the day puts Sasaki in a tie for 24th all-time on the combined wins list with 123 career wins.
