April 19, 2021 | Men's Basketball
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Trey Diggs, a senior on the Bowling Green State University men's basketball team, has announced that he will use his extra year of eligibility and remain a Falcon in 2021-22. Diggs, this year's Sixth Man of the Year in the Mid-American Conference, has scored over 1,000 collegiate points and has connected on 109 three-pointers in two seasons at BGSU.
This past season, Diggs became just the second player in program history to take home the MAC's Sixth Man of the Year Award. Brian Moten grabbed the honor in 2008. The native of Niceville, Florida shot a team-high 37.8 percent from downtown in 2020-21, which ranked third-best in the league among players that attempted 150-plus triples. His 59 made three-pointers on the season was also third-best in the MAC.
After averaging 7.5 points, 2.8 rebounds and 0.4 assists in his first year in Bowling Green, Diggs posted averages of 11.5 points, 4.3 rebounds and 0.9 assists in 2021-22. One of the most potent offensive weapons off the bench across all of college basketball, Diggs poured in 10-plus points a total of 16 times this season. Diggs appeared in all 26 games for the Orange and Brown in 2021-22.
COACH HUGER STATEMENT
"I'm thrilled to have Trey back with us for another season. Trey made huge strides this past year and earned himself the prestigious MAC Sixth Man of the Year Award. Choosing to use his extra year of eligibility will give him an opportunity to develop on the court and help him reach his long-term goals. With Trey and Daeqwon returning, we will have the leadership and experience to help us compete at the top of the MAC!"
DIGGS ON RETURNING TO BGSU
"The last two years at BGSU have been so great for me. I've progressed so much both on the court and academically. I don't feel like there was any other choice for me than to come back to BGSU for one last go around, especially after our performance in the MAC Tournament. I'm excited to get back to work for my final year. #AyZiggy"
