April 20, 2021 | General
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – For her unwavering leadership and support to BGSU student-athletes, staff and University co-workers, Stacy Kosciak has been named BGSU's 2021 Newcomer of the Year. Kosciak, Senior Associate AD/SWA and Deputy Title IX Coordinator, has made an immediate positive impact on the department since beginning her role in Bowling Green in April of 2020.
"Congratulations to Stacy Kosciak on the Newcomer of the Year Award," said BGSU Director of Athletics Bob Moosbrugger. "Her official start date was April 6, 2020, just weeks after the world stopped during the global pandemic. There was no acclimation period for her as she was thrown into the middle of crisis management. Stacy has shown herself to be a positive and solutions-oriented leader. Through it all, Stacy led with empathy, expertise and compassion. Our success is a direct reflection on her work. She is a tremendous asset to Falcon Athletics and BGSU!"
The Newcomer of the Year Award was first awarded in 2013. It was created to recognize an administrative staff member who has played an integral part in implementing an idea, program or procedure designed to enhance or improve one or more of the following areas: student recruitment, retention and/or engagement.
WHAT THE ATHLETICS DEPARTMENT SAYS ABOUT KOSCIAK
"Stacy's professionalism and excellent communication skills have been invaluable to me as a coach during this unprecedented year. From day one, it was apparent that she is a team player and a servant leader. Stacy understands the challenges that coaches face and is always available to serve as a sounding board or provide valuable advice when needed." – Danijela Tomic, Head Volleyball Coach
"Stacy has been a wonderful addition to our athletic department. She is consistent, helpful and supportive. She has assimilated seamlessly this year, even with all of the challenges of a pandemic." – Robyn Fralick, Head Women's Basketball Coach
"Stacy is fantastic to work with and has been extremely supportive of our staff and program since her arrival at BG. As a new coach to BG, arriving at a similar time to Stacy, I have enjoyed our interaction and her guidance of our female athletes and our coaching staff. I enjoy our meetings as Stacy has a calming persona and leadership style that creates a great environment to work in!" – Jimmy Walker, Head Women's Soccer Coach
"Stacy was hired into BGSU in the spring of 2020 and despite all of the challenges of starting a new job in an unfamiliar state and community, Stacy has proven to be capable of tackling a number of professional challenges that COVID has thrown at her. Her calm and thorough professionalism in helping to steer our department through COVID protocols, DEI initiatives, and many other vital endeavors has been instrumental. Her inclusive leadership style and willingness to meet for countless hours with me on video calls through the evening and weekend demonstrates her desire to foster relationships and mentorship to all people she has come to support." – Dr. Chet Hesson, Associate AD for Academics and Student Services, Deputy Title IX Coordinator
"Stacy is supportive, understanding, and is an outstanding mentor that goes above and beyond. She not only allows me to be a good coach, but she has enhanced my professional development as an administrator." – Jake Roy, Director of Strength and Conditioning
