Gurney, Butler Named Medical Mutual Athletes Of The Week

Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Medical Mutual Athletes of the Week, as selected by the strategic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are baseball player Kyle Gurney and track and field thrower Kaila Butler.
Male Athlete of the Week
Kyle Gurney, a freshman from Belleville, Mich., hit .533 (8-for-15) with five RBI and three extra-base hits in BGSU's Battle of I-75 rivalry series with Toledo. Gurney recorded at least one hit in all four games, extending his hitting streak to nine games. In his first full season of college baseball, the freshman from Belleville, Michigan is now hitting .312 for the Orange and Brown in 2021.Â

Kaila Butler, a redshirt senior from Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, set a new personal best mark in the hammer throw at Toledo's Rocket Invitational. With a distance of 213-feet-5 (65.06m), she won the event and moved up to No. 10 in the East region. Three of Butler's six throws exceeded 62 meters.
