BGSU Athletics Introduces New Internship Program for Students
July 22, 2021 | General
The Bowling Green State University athletics department is proud to announce a new internship program dedicated to enhance the ethnic minority and gender representation in the field of intercollegiate athletics. The Diverse Professionals Enhancement Program was created to help build a pipeline for future full-time internships and entry-level positions in college athletics. Regarding the internship, Director of Athletics Bob Moosbrugger stated, "Diversity and Belonging is a core value of BGSU. Within the athletics department, we take great pride in the diversity of our student-athletes and understand the role we play as administrators to grow the next generation of professionals. As a Filipino-American, I am excited for the development of this program with the current students."
The year-long paid internship is open to two current BGSU students who have an interest in pursuing a career in the field of athletics. No prior work experience is necessary to apply for the positions. The goal of the internships is to develop and educate young students by providing a cross-training experience that would serve as a guide to launching their career. The internship will also come with resume building, networking opportunities, and mock interviews to help prepare them for the industry. Assistant Athletics Director for Marketing and Brand Enhancement Taylor Jefferson says, "Creating this opportunity for underrepresented groups is a passion of mine. An Ethnic Minority and Women's Grant is how I started my career in athletics and providing that to students here at BGSU. I look forward to helping young, aspiring professionals."
Selected applicants will have the opportunity to choose between two tracks.
