Trio Of Falcons Sweep MAC Volleyball Awards

CLEVELAND - The Mid-American Conference announced Monday (Sept. 27) the MAC honors for volleyball for the past week of competition. Bowling Green swept the MAC East awards, with Petra Indrova winning Offensive Player of the Week, Julia Walz winning Defensive Player of the Week, and Hanna Laube winning Setter of the Week. This is the second time Indrova and Laube have been selected and the first time Walz has been selected this season. In their careers, Indrova has won four times, Laube has won six times, and Walz has won five times.
MAC Volleyball East Division Offensive Player of the Week
Petra Indrova, Bowling Green, Opposite HitterÂ
Petra Indrova helped the Bowling Green Falcons start conference play with two victories, both over Akron. In the first match, Indrova logged a season-best .522 hitting percentage and a team-high 13 kills. The Falcons, who went on a 17-0 run in the opening set, finished the match with a .337 hitting percentage. Indrova also led the Falcons in blocks, with one solo block and four block assists. The next day, Indrova registered a season-best 21 kills, helping BGSU win in four sets. Eight of her kills came in the final set, which the Falcons won 25-22. The junior also recorded a career-best four solo blocks and totaled a career-high 26.0 points.
MAC Volleyball East Division Defensive Player of the Week
Julia Walz, Bowling Green, Libero           Â
Libero Julia Walz led a Bowling Green defensive performance that helped the Falcons win both matches on the weekend. In the conference opener at Akron, Walz tallied a team-best 11 digs. The Falcons limited the Zips to a -.034 hitting percentage in the first set and a .000 hitting percentage in the second set. Akron finished the match hitting .090, the second opponent the Falcons have held below .100. The next day, the senior registered a season-best 35 digs, the third-best total of her career. In the clinching set, BGSU held Akron to a hitting percentage of .057.
MAC Volleyball East Division Setter of the Week
Hanna Laube, Bowling Green, Setter     Â
Setter Hanna Laube guided a Bowling Green offensive attack that saw several players attain season-bests in their two wins over Akron. In the first set of the weekend, the Falcons swung .524, going on a 17-0 run during the set. BGSU finished the match with a .337 hitting percentage, their second-best total of the year. Laube tallied 32 assists, as well as two blocks. On Saturday, Laube logged a season-best 57 assists as the Falcons claimed a four-set victory. This marked the third time this season Laube has recorded more than 50 assists, with this being the first time she has done so in four sets. The Falcons finished the match with a .301 hitting percentage, their third consecutive match hitting .300+.
This weekend, the Falcons will return to the Stroh Center for a four-game MAC homestand. They begin by hosting Buffalo at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 1, and 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 2. The following weekend, BGSU hosts Northern Illinois at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 8, and Western Michigan at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 9.
