Pair Of Third Period Power Play Goals Push Falcons Past Bulldogs

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – The Bowling Green Falcons (13-9-3, 10-6-1-2) defeated the Ferris State Bulldogs (9-18-0, 7-12-0-1) by a score of 4-3 on Friday (Jan. 28) in Ewigleben Arena. The Falcons jumped out to a 2-0 advantage after scoring early in each of the first two periods, but the Bulldogs responded with three unanswered goals to take the lead into the final frame. Bowling Green's power play unit found the net twice in the third period, with Taylor Schneider tying the game before Evan Dougherty gave the Orange and Brown the lead.

"We needed a good third period and we got it from our guys. Our power play was really sharp in the third and that was big for us. Ferris State is playing very well right now and they are tough to play in their own arena."

Scoring Plays
- Less than three minutes into the game, Ryan O'Hara gave the Falcons the early lead. Ferris State lost possession of the puck behind the net, then Spencer Schneider dumped it off to O'Hara. The freshman's shot, taken from a difficult angle on the right side, deflected off the goaltender and into the net. Schneider was credited with the lone assist.
- Adam Pitters added to the Falcon lead, scoring just over two minutes into the middle frame. Pitters sent the puck from the left board to in front of the crease, where Ryan O'Hara possessed it. O'Hara bounced a pass off the back wall to Pitters, who flicked a shot from below the goal line off the goaltender's back and into the net. O'Hara earned the assist.
- Ferris State scored a few minutes later, with Kaleb Ergang scoring on a redirect. Ergang stood in front of the crease and make a nice deflection on a Ben Schultheis shot. Assists were given to Schultheis and Dallas Tulik.
- The Bulldogs evened the score near the midpoint of the second period. Justin Michaelian capitalized on a Bowling Green turnover, beating the defense and going top shelf on a nifty backhanded shot.
- With just over four minutes left in the second, the Bulldogs took the lead. Justin Michaelian fed the puck to Luke Farthing who scored on a rebound from the left side after his first shot was blocked. Michaelian and Stepan Pokorny were credited with the assists.
- The Falcons responded in the third period, tying the game with a power play score. T.J. Lloyd made a pass from the blue line to the left circle, finding Chrystopher Collin. Collin's pass cut through the defense and found Taylor Schneider, who slotted a quick shot from the right side.
- A few minutes later, Bowling Green regained the lead with another power play goal. Gabriel Chicoine's shot found Evan Dougherty in the middle of the ice, with the forward's redirect finding the back of the net. Chicoine and T.J. Lloyd earned the assists.

- Taylor Schneider scored his eighth goal of the year and 33rd of his career. It was his fifth power play goal of the season, tying Nathan Burke for the team lead. Schneider has a team-best 25 points this season and 78 in his career. He leads the Falcons with 13 points scored on the power play, with tonight's goal marking his 11th career power play score.
- Ryan O'Hara tallied his second collegiate goal. His score was assisted by fellow freshman Spencer Schneider, who also assisted on O'Hara's first collegiate goal. Schneider has three assists and four points this season.
- O'Hara also tallied an assist, his fourth of the year. The forward has six points this season, with tonight marking his first career multi-point performance.
- Also notching a multi-point performance was T.J. Lloyd, who tallied a pair of assists. The defenseman has 11 assists and 12 points this season, and 33 assists and 37 points in his career. Both of his assists came on the power play, giving him five points (all assists) on the power play this season. Tonight marked the third multi-point effort of Lloyd's season, with all three being multi-assist games. He has six career multi-point performances and four career multi-assist efforts.
- Evan Dougherty scored his first goal of the season and 13th of his career. The assistant captain has two points this season and 19 in his career. Tonight's power play score was the second power play goal of his career. It was also the first game-winning goal of the forward's career.
- Adam Pitters scored his second goal of the season and third of his career. The junior has five points this year and 12 in his career.
- Gabriel Chicoine tallied an assist, his 15th of the season. The senior leads all defensemen in assists and points (16) this season. He has 59 assists and 71 points in his collegiate career.
- Chrystopher Collin added an assist, pushing his season total to five and career total to nine. The sophomore has nine points this season and 13 in his career.
- Christian Stoever spent 59:42 between the pipes and made 24 saves, including 13 in the opening frame.
- The Falcons improve to 7-3-0 in games decided by one goal and 4-1-0 in January.
