BGVB Battles Bobcats To Four-Set Win, Weekend Sweep

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University volleyball program completed the weekend sweep over Ohio with a four-set victory on Saturday (Oct. 1) at the Stroh Center. The Falcons took the first two sets before Ohio forced a fourth with a third set win. The Falcons battled back in the fourth set, going into extra points. After going to extra points, Jaden Walz was able to land an ace for the Falcons to clinch the 3-1 win and the weekend sweep.
Petra Indrova paced the Falcons with 13 kills while adding six digs, four aces and three block assists to her stat line. Jaden Walz contributed her sixth double-double of the season with 27 assists and 11 digs while landing three aces of her own. As for at the net, the Falcons totaled 13 team blocks with Jessica Andrews topping the stat sheet with one solo and eight block assists. The Falcons move to 9-6 on the season, 4-0 in the MAC, and are winners in six of their last seven, including four straight victories.

The Falcons will be back on the road next weekend to face two MAC West opponents. Bowling Green will first travel to face Northern Illinois on Friday (Oct. 7) for a 7:00 p.m. EST first serve. BGSU will then transition to Western Michigan on Saturday (Oct. 8) for a 5:00 p.m. start.

How It Happened
Set 1: Bowling Green 25, Ohio 18
- Ohio took an early lead in the first set, but a 5-0 run for the Falcons moved Bowling Green in front. The run was part of an 8-2 stretch for BGSU that resulted in a timeout from Ohio with the score at 11-7 Falcons.
- The Falcons continued to add to the lead, growing to 16-10 at the next stoppage, coming from an OU timeout.
- Out of the timeout, Ohio went on a 7-2 stretch to pull within one at 18-17, seeing Bowling Green use their first timeout of the set.
- From there, the Falcons went on a 7-1 run to close out the set 25-18 to go up 1-0 for the match.
Set 2: Bowling Green 25, Ohio 20
- Ohio began the set out in front after a 4-0 run, but the Falcons were able to put together a 5-0 stretch later in the set to take the lead at 11-8 and force an Ohio timeout.
- BGSU continued to push forward with the lead before the next Ohio timeout, coming at 18-13.
- Bowling Green was able to stay in front through the end of the set with a 25-20 set win, increasing the match lead to 2-0.
Set 3: Ohio 25, Bowling Green 17
- An early 5-0 run for the Bobcats in the third set granted OU a 6-4 lead and prompted an early timeout from the Bowling Green bench.
- Ohio put together a 4-0 run to extend their lead to 13-7 and force another timeout from the Falcons.
- Ohio tallied the next two points out of the timeout to push the lead to 15-7, but the Falcons responded with a 3-0 run to cut the deficit to 15-10 with Ohio taking a timeout.
- Ohio managed to hold on for the rest of the set, taking a 25-17 set to extend the match to a fourth set.
Set 4: Bowling Green 27, Ohio 25
- The fourth set began close, going to a 5-5 tie, but a 4-0 run for Ohio granted the Bobcats a 9-5 lead and forced a timeout from the Falcons.
- Out of the timeout, the Falcons tallied three straight points to draw the score to 9-8, resulting in an Ohio timeout.
- Bowling Green pushed through to form a 5-0 run later in the set to take the lead 19-18. After back-to-back aces by Lauryn Hovey, the Bobcats called timeout.
- Ohio brought the set to extra points, but the Falcons were able to win on a Jaden Walz ace to take the set 27-25.

- With the win, the Falcons completed their second straight weekend sweep to open MAC play, moving the team to a 4-0 conference record. The two sweeps have come against Ohio and Kent State who were picked to finish second and third, respectively, in the MAC East.
- Through the first two weekends of conference play, the Falcons are the only team in the MAC with an undefeated conference record.
- Jaden Walz registered her sixth double-double of the season, totaling 27 assists and 11 digs. Walz added three aces to her stat line as well, including the match-clinching point.
- Petra Indrova landed a team-high four aces to set a new season-high. Indrova also led the Falcons in kills for the second consecutive night, landing 13 for the Orange and Brown.
- Mia Tyler tallied three digs for Bowling Green, setting a new season-high and matching her career-high in the process. Tyler also landed eight kills for the Falcons and logged a block assist.
- Julia Walz earned her first career kill at the collegiate level. Walz filled the stat sheet with a team-high 14 digs and an assist as well.
- Katelyn Meyer set a new season-high for block assists with three in the match.
