Falcons' 102 Points Secures Win Over Ohio Dominican In Non-Conference Finale

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University men's basketball program closed out the non-conference schedule with a 102-65 victory over Ohio Dominican at the Stroh Center Thursday night (Dec. 29). The Falcons registered a season-best 58.3% from the field while shooting 92.0% from the free throw line. The win moves Bowling Green to 6-7 on the season and 4-3 at home heading into Mid-American Conference play, which begins on Tuesday (Jan. 3).
Leon Ayers III led the Falcons to the team's highest scoring output of the season, scoring 30 points to mark BGSU's first 30-point game in over two years. Kaden Metheny joined in with 20 points to give BGSU two 20-point scorers for the first time this season. Sam Towns added his first double-double as a Falcons with 11 points and 10 rebounds while Rashaun Agee (12) and Samari Curtis (10) added double-digit points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Getting his first start of the season, Brenton Mills splashed a three for the first BGSU points of the game. The two teams matched each other shot for shot, heading into the first media timeout with the score at 7-7.
- Coming out of the media timeout, the Falcons went on a 13-0 run to move out in front 20-7. The Panthers cut the lead down to 10 at 22-12 going into the next media timeout.
- A few short bursts allowed Ohio Dominican to trim the Bowling Green lead to 42-37 at the halftime break.
- The Falcons came out in the second half and began with an 8-0 run to push the BGSU lead to 50-37 and force a timeout from ODU.
- Bowling Green continued to press forward and increase the lead, including another 13-0 run to extend the advantage to 77-45.
- Ohio Dominican registered a bucket before another 14-0 stretch in favor of the Falcons to push the score to 91-47 and the BGSU run to 27-2.
- The Panthers put together an 8-0 run to bring the score to 98-58 Bowling Green with just over two and a half minutes left.
- ODU closed the game with a 7-0 stretch to bring the final score to 102-65, marking two consecutive wins while scoring 90+ for the Orange and Brown.

FALCON STAT FACTS
- For the second consecutive game, the Falcons recorded a season-high offensive output, registering the team's first 100-point game of the season with 102 points. BGSU is now 5-0 this season when scoring at least 80 points.
- Bowling Green also logged a season-best shooting percentage for the second straight game. The Falcons shot 58.3% from the field (34-of-60) and finished an impressive 23-of-25 at the free throw line (92.0%). The 92% from the line is the best mark for BGSU when attempting 10 or more free throws since shooting 94.7% (36-of-38) against Ohio on Dec. 30, 2020.
- The Orange and Brown tallied a season-high 25 assists as a team, the first game for the team with 25 or more assists since having 32 against Carlow last season. BGSU has had at least 20 assists in three of the last five games and are averaging 18.8 assists per game over those five games.
- BGSU finished out the game with 42 rebounds, the team's third game this season with 40+ rebounds. The Falcons are now 6-0 this season when outrebounding their opponent.
- Leon Ayers III set a new career-high with 30 points, marking the second straight game he has tallied at least 20 points. Ayers now has five of the Falcons' seven 20-point games this season. His performance also marked the first 30-point game by a Falcon since Justin Turner scored 33 against Buffalo on Dec. 6, 2020. Ayers made a career-high 11 shots on 13 attempts for an impressive 84.6% from the field.
- Kaden Metheny finished with 20 points for his second 20-point game this season. With both Ayers and Metheny eclipsing 20 points, the game marked the first time this season that BGSU had two 20-point scorers in the same game. Metheny also matched his career-high for assists with five.
- Sam Towns logged his first double-double as a Falcon, finishing with 11 points and a career-high 10 rebounds. Towns is the third Falcon this season to have a double-double and the second to do so with points and rebounds.
- Getting his first start of the season, Brenton Mills made a season-high two three pointers while adding a season-high three assists and eight points for the Orange and Brown.
- Samari Curtis entered the game with a 92.1% mark at the free throw line, eighth in the nation. He went a perfect 8-for-8 in the game to move his season mark to 93.5%.
- Jackson Watson recorded a career-high five points for the Falcons, adding a career-high two rebounds and his first assist of the season to his stat line.
- Ubongabasi Etim made a layup late in the game to record his first collegiate points.
- Madani Diarra tallied a rebound at each end of the court for the Falcons, giving him his first offensive board of the season and a season-high two rebounds.
- With back-to-back home wins, the Falcons move above .500 inside the Stroh Center this season with a 4-3 record when playing at home.
- With the win, the Falcons are 2-0 all-time against Ohio Dominican and won two straight to close out the non-conference schedule.
