Three Straight Scores Give Falcons Win Over No. 14 Michigan Tech

HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Bowling Green Falcons (14-13-3, 11-10-1-2) scored the final three goals of the game to hand No. 14 Michigan Tech (18-9-2, 15-6-1-1) a 4-2 loss, the first regulation loss for the Huskies since Dec. 4. MTU scored early in the game, then Nathan Burke tied it up a few minutes later. The Huskies responded with a score shortly after, but it was all Bowling Green from there. Evan Dougherty evened the score in the second period, then Ryan O'Hara have the Falcons the lead in the third. Coale Norris added a power play goal for the Falcons to secure the win and three points in the conference standings.

Bowling Green will return to the Slater Family Ice Arena for the final home series of the regular season. The Falcons will host Northern Michigan on Friday, Feb. 18, and Saturday, Feb. 19. Both games begin at 7:07 p.m., with Saturday's game being Senior Night.

Scoring Plays
- The Huskies struck first, scoring just over five minutes into the game. Brian Halonen made a series of moves in the left circle, then dumped the puck off to Eric Gotz. Gotz fired a shot from a difficult angle, sneaking it through and finding the right side of the net.
- Bowling Green evened the score near the midpoint of the opening frame. Adam Pitters won a faceoff in the defensive zone, then the Falcons cycled the puck around until Nathan Burke possessed it at the blue line. Burke skated along the right side and went top-shelf for the score. Pitters and Evan Dougherty earned the assists.
- Moments later, MTU regained the lead. Alec Broetzman attacked the right side and made a nifty pass to Matthew Quercia, who knocked the puck in as he lunged across the crease. Broetzman and Arvid Caderoth were credited with the assists.
- The Falcons tied the game again in the second period. Adam Pitters passed the puck across the offensive zone to Nathan Burke, who fired a shot from the right circle. The shot was deflected to just in front of the crease, where Evan Dougherty connected to score on the rebound. Assists were credited to Burke and Pitters.
- BGSU took the lead in the third period, scoring eight minutes into the frame. With the power play winding down, Max Coyle passed the puck along the right boards to Austen Swankler. Swankler put a perfect pass on Ryan O'Hara who scored from just left of the crease one second after the power play ended.
- Three minutes later, the Falcons added to the lead with a power play score. Taylor Schneider fired a shot from the left circle, then the rebound landed in front of Coale Norris. Norris knocked it in for the power play score, with assists going to Schneider and Eric Parker.
- Hobey Baker nominee Nathan Burke scored his team-best 15th goal while tallying his seventh assist, giving him 22 points this season. The multi-point effort was Burke's fifth of the season. The senior has 50 points in his collegiate career, with 28 of those being goals.
- Evan Dougherty notched his second goal and second assist of the season, giving him four points. The senior has 14 goals and seven assists in his career, with tonight marking the second multi-point performance of his career. It was his first time this season notching multiple points.
- Adam Pitters tallied his fourth and fifth assists of the season, giving him seven points this year. The junior has 11 assists and 14 points in his career, with tonight marking the first time he has registered multiple points in a game.
- Ryan O'Hara scored his third goal of the season, giving him seven points. It was the game-winning goal, the first of the freshman's career.
- Coale Norris scored his eighth goal of the season, giving him 14 points on the season. It was his second power play goal of the year. The senior has 39 goals and 77 points in his collegiate career.
- Austen Swankler and Taylor Schneider each tallied an assist, giving them a shared season lead in assists (18) and points (26). Schneider's assist was the 46th of his career, giving him 79 points.
- Schneider's assist was his ninth power play assist of the season, tying Gabriel Chicoine for the team lead. Schneider has a team-high 14 points scored on the power play this season.
- Eric Parker tallied an assist, his tenth of the season. The freshman has 11 points, with three of those coming on the power play (all assists).
- Max Coyle recorded his third assist of the season, giving him four points this year. The junior has five points in his Bowling Green career and nine points in his collegiate career.
- Christian Stoever spent the entire game in net, making 24 saves.
- Sam Craggs played in the 174th game of his career, tying Marc Potvin for third place in program history. Craggs is four games away from tying the program record, held by Nelson Emerson and Greg Parks. Bowling Green has four games remaining on the regular season schedule, with a best-of-three CCHA Quarterfinals series following those games.
- With the win, Bowling Green snaps a four-game losing skid, while maintaining their fourth-place position in the CCHA standings.
- Tonight's loss was Michigan Tech's first of 2022, and their first regulation loss since Dec. 4.
