THE FALCONS IN THE MAC TOURNAMENT
• BGSU enters Wednesday's Akron game with an all-time record of 46-26 in MAC Tournament contests. The Falcons have won 11 league tournament titles, the most of any conference institution, and BG has the second-highest winning percentage (.639) of any team in league tourney games. BGSU's conference tournament win total also places the Falcons second among MAC teams. A complete list of BGSU's game-by-game results in MAC Tournament play can be found on page 27 of the PDF version of these notes.
FALCONS VS. AKRON IN THE MAC TOURNAMENT
• The Falcons and Akron are meeting for just the third time in MAC Tournament play, and the second time in downtown Cleveland. BGSU is 1-1 in tourney meetings with UA, including an 0-1 mark in road games and a 1-0 record at neutral sites.
• In the lone prior quarterfinal-round meeting, the host Zips picked up a 74-56 win over the Falcons in 1999. The teams met at the venue now known as Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse (then known as Quicken Loans Arena) in 2010, with BGSU posting an 81-49 win in the semifinals, en route to a MAC Tournament title.

FALCONS BY ROUND AND SITE IN THE MAC TOURNAMENT
• The Falcons enter the Akron game with an all-time record of 16-6 in the MAC Tournament's quarterfinal round, and BGSU is 14-8 in the semifinals and 11-3 in championship-game appearances over the years.
• The Falcons also have marks of 4-8 in the first round, 1-0 in second-round games and 0-1 in the third round.
• BGSU is a perfect 10-0 in MAC Tournament home games, including a 1-0 mark at the Stroh Center. The Falcons are 2-11 in true road games and 34-15 in neutral-site contests in the league tourney over the years.
CLEVELAND ROCKS!
• BGSU has had great success at the arena known as Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse over the years, and the Falcons enjoyed an incredible run at the building during a decade-long span from 2004-13.
• After making a run to the championship game last year, BGSU has a 23-8 record in MAC Tournament games at Gund/Quicken Loans/Rocket Mortgage, and the Falcons are 23-9 overall in league tournament contests played in Cleveland over the years (the tourney was held at Public Hall in 2000).
• The Falcons lost their first-ever game at then-Gund Arena, in the 2001 MAC Tournament. BGSU then went 20-3 at 'the Gund'/'the Q' from 2004-11. The Falcons posted two buzzer-beating wins in Cleveland to get to the 2004 title game before succumbing.
• Then, Curt Miller's Falcons won 10-straight games in the building, capturing three consecutive titles from 2005-07 before being upset in double overtime by Ohio in the 2008 semifinals.
• BG won two games to advance to the 2009 title match before falling by four points to Ball State, and the Falcons then captured six consecutive games in the venue en route to the 2010 and '11 championships.
• Then, however, the Falcons won just one of the next four games in the building, before downing Eastern Michigan and Buffalo last year. BGSU's 2021 win over EMU was the Falcons' first MAC Tournament victory – at any site – since the third round of the 2013 tourney (a 55-53 win over WMU at the Q).
STREAKS, STORYLINES AND SIDEBARS
• The Falcons saw a two-game winning streak come to an end on Saturday (March 5), with an 81-62 loss at Buffalo to end the regular season. Kadie Hempfling scored 14 points and Nyla Hampton 12 for the Orange and Brown.
• The UB loss came after last Wednesday's (March 2) 69-60 win over Kent State at the Stroh Center. Freshman Jocelyn Tate scored a career-high 19 points and keyed a 14-0 second-quarter run that gave BGSU the lead for good. Hampton, who had a career-high 23 points in the first KSU meeting (Feb. 21), had 15 points along with game-high totals of five assists and five steals in the rematch.
• Hampton has nine steals over the last two games, and leads the MAC with 78 total steals this season. That total ranks her fourth on the BGSU single-season list.
• BGSU is 24-14 in MAC regular-season games since the start of the 2020-21 season, after going 8-46 in the previous three seasons (2017-18 to '19-20). That 24-14 record includes a 14-6 mark at the Stroh and a 10-8 ledger in league road games.
• For what it's worth, BGSU is 10-4 in weekday games this season. The Falcons went 8-3 in such contests during MAC play (2-0 on Monday and 6-3 on Wednesday), and BGSU has won eight of the last 10 weekday games.
• Entering Wednesday's game, Morgan Sharps leads the MAC – and is sixth in the nation – in three-point field-goal percentage. She has hit 44.5% of her long-distance shots this season.
A QUICK LOOK AT THE ZIPS
• Akron is 16-10 on the season, and the Zips finished with a 13-7 record in MAC play, good for third place. UA has won seven of the last nine games, including a 73-72 victory over Miami on Saturday (March 5). The Zips are 8-4 at home and 8-6 on the road this season. In conference play, Akron went 6-4 at Rhodes Arena and 7-3 away from home.
• Jordyn Dawson, the MAC Player of the Year, leads the team in scoring and rebounding, with 22.4 points and 9.4 rebounds per game. She also paces the Zips in assists (4.2 apg) and steals (3.0 spg). Reagan Bass has scored 11.5 ppg to date, and is shooting 55.7% from the floor. Head coach Melissa Jackson welcomed back nine letterwinners from a 2020-21 club that went 7-14 overall and 4-14 in the MAC.
THE SERIES
• The Falcons lead Akron, 57-13, in the all-time series, but UA captured this year's two regular-season meetings, including a 79-69 decision in the Rubber City (Jan. 8, 2022) and a 72-70 nail-biter at the Stroh (Feb. 23, 2022). In the latter game, Amy Velasco's layup tied the score with just 10.5 seconds to go, but after an Akron three-point try was off the mark, Jordyn Dawson laid the ball back up and in with 1.2 seconds on the clock. The Orange and Brown swept last season's matchups, including a 79-64 road win that clinched the 2020-21 MAC regular-season title (Feb. 27, 2021). BGSU is 30-5 in home games, 25-28 in road contests and 2-0 in neutral-site affairs vs. UA over the years.
• More information on the BGSU-Akron series can be found on page 26 of the PDF.
DOWN THE ROAD
• The BGSU-Akron winner will advance to Friday's (March 11) MAC Tournament semifinal round, and will face either second-seeded Buffalo or seventh-seeded Western Michigan. That semifinal-round contest is scheduled to start at approximately 12:30 p.m. at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.
