MacKenzie Moore (Trophy Club, Texas) recently completed her first season in the BGSU women's golf program. During her first collegiate season, Moore won the Dolores Black Falcon Invitational following five playoff holes, pacing the Falcons to the team title as well.
Q: Have you made any fun trips of done anything fun this summer?
Moore: I have been traveling a lot with my family this summer. We went to Mexico, Oklahoma, and Kansas! Other than that, just playing golf!
Q: When did you start playing golf and how did you wind up gravitating toward the sport when you were a kid?
Moore: I started playing golf when I was about 5 years old. My dad would just take me to the driving range everyday after school and I fell in love with the sport. I mainly gravitated towards golf because my dad and brother both played, and I loved the idea of the individual aspect of the sport.
Q: Who inspired or encouraged you the most athletically growing up?
Moore: My parents and my brother encouraged me the most athletically growing up. I was introduced to every single sport and had the opportunity to explore many different sports. My brother was also an athlete growing up and pushed me every single day to be the best athlete I can. My dad was a big inspiration to me when he introduced me golf and I am very grateful he did.

Q: What made you decide that you wanted to attend BGSU?
Moore: Even though BGSU is far from my hometown in Dallas I absolutely love Ohio and the school. Golf was my biggest factor in choosing a college and BGSU was the perfect program for me!
Q: What was one thing about your freshman year that surprised you?
Moore: I was really shocked about the winters and how much snow there was!
Q: How did you decide upon your major, and what are your career goals after college?
Moore: My current major is business administration with a minor in marketing, but I am considering switching to supply chain management. I’ve always gravitated towards some type of business degree because I know there are many different career paths I can choose once I am out of college. After college my goal is to see how far I can take golf in my life. But I know for sure I want golf to be in my future career no matter what I end up doing.
Q: What is your favorite spot on campus and why?
Moore: I would say our indoor practice facility because I can go in there at anytime to hang out with my teammates and to practice every area of my game.

Q: You are from Trophy Club, Texas. What is your favorite thing about your hometown or something that someone should know if they are traveling there?
Moore: My favorite thing about living in Trophy Club is the access to so many amazing golf courses in my area. The Dallas/Fort Worth area has so many championship golf courses and hosts many PGA Tour and LPGA Tour events. Travelers should be aware of the traffic and how busy and fast paced Dallas is, but also how many attractions and different things there are to do!
Q: What is your go-to restaurant or meal?
Moore: Panda Express or Italian
Q: What is a better tool to have in golf; the ability to have long drives or a consistent short game and why?
Moore: In my opinion I believe the consistency of short game is the most important tool in golf. I really came to the realization of this during my five playoff holes when I had to make crucial up and downs to stay in the playoff. But having a consistent short game is going to make those off rounds just a little bit better.

Q: Who is the funniest player on the team and why?
Moore: Aly Kovach never fails to make us all laugh on the team. She brings such a great demeanor to our team and makes the culture so fun to be around.
Q: Describe Coach Fahey in one word…
Moore: Determined
Q: This past season you won the Dolores Black Falcon Invitational after five playoff holes. How did you stay focused and what were your emotions through those playoff holes?
Moore: It was extremely difficult to stay focused during those five holes because it was our home event and I wanted so badly to win in front of my family and all my teammates. Coach Fahey was also a big part of that win and keeping me calm and focused during every shot of that playoff and making me feel like I could do anything no matter how difficult those shots were coming down the stretch. Of course, I was nervous during the playoff, but I was also excited because I had always dreamed of being in that position after coming off an injury in the fall. I am just very grateful to have the opportunity to win in front of all my friends and family.
Q: Not only did you win at the Dolores Black Falcon Invitational, but the team did as well. How great was it to be able to not only celebrate the individual title, but with the team title as well?
Moore: It was amazing to win as a team as well because all of us want so badly to perform at our best for each other and that weekend we did! It was an awesome feeling knowing that all our hard work and long practices had finally paid off for us. It was also an amazing feeling tying the 18-hole scoring record as a team!

Q: What is your favorite thing about being a part of the BGSU women's golf program?
Moore: My favorite part of being on the BGSU Women’s Golf team is how much our team is like a family. It was a big adjustment for me when I was very far away from my family, but we are always there for each other on the team. Plus, not a day goes by that we aren’t with each other. We also push each other in the gym and on the course which makes it that much more fun!
Q: What are your goals, both personally and for the team, for the 2022-23 academic year?
Moore: My main goal for the team is to win as many tournaments as possible and to improve from the prior year. We also had a great performance as a team at the MAC Championship and want to continue to improve our placement at conference. Personally, my goals are to continue to improve my game from my freshmen year and contribute to the teams success as much as possible.
