Andrews' 12 Total Blocks Boosts Bowling Green To Victory Over DePaul

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University volleyball program closed out the Hampton Inn Invitational on Saturday (Sept. 3) at the Stroh Center with a 3-1 victory over DePaul. The Falcons took the first set before the Blue Demons evened the score in the second. Bowling Green stormed back in the third and fourth sets to claim the win. Petra Indrova logged a career-high 29 digs while Jessica Andrews nearly broke the program's record for block assists (9) and total blocks (12) in a four set match, coming just two shy of tying each record.
With the win, the Falcons exit the Hampton Inn Invitational with a 2-1 record for the weekend, topping both Northern Kentucky and DePaul. Kat Mandly and Jessica Andrews were named All-Tournament recipients for the Falcons who now stand 3-3 in the 2022 season. BGSU will now shift attention to the Panther Invitational, hosted by Pittsburgh. Next weekend, the Falcons are set to face Towson, American and Pittsburgh, who entered this weekend No. 10 in the nation.

The Falcons will return to the road next weekend for the Panther Invitational, hosted by Pitt. Bowling Green is scheduled to first face Towson at 11:00 a.m. on Sept. 9 before returning that night to face Pitt at 7:30 p.m. The weekend will conclude with American University at 4:00 p.m. on Sept. 10.

How It Happened
Set 1: Bowling Green 25, DePaul 17
- The match began with the Falcons and Blue Demons trading points before a 3-0 run for the Falcons created a 6-3 lead early in the set.
- Bowling Green was able to stretch the lead to four at 12-8 and maintained that advantage up to the media timeout at 15-11.
- A 6-1 stretch soon after the media break propelled the Falcons out in front 21-13 and prompted a timeout from the DePaul bench at 21-13.
- The Falcons continued to press through the timeout, taking the first set 25-17 on a kill by Kat Mandly.
Set 2: DePaul 25, Bowling Green 23
- The second set began close, seeing the first break come at the media timeout with DePaul in front 15-12.
- A 5-0 run for the Blue Demons extended their lead to 20-13, but a 4-0 run for the Falcons pulled BG back within three at 20-17.
- The Falcons made another late push with a 4-0 run to narrow the gap to just one at 24-23, but a timeout from DePaul allowed the Blue Demons to regroup for the final point and even the match with a 25-23 second set.
Set 3: Bowling Green 25, DePaul 18
- In the third set, DePaul jumped to a 4-1 lead, but the Falcons quickly tied it up at 4-4. The ties continued into the set at 13-13 before BGSU pushed in front for the rest of the set.
- Bowling Green tallied two consecutive points to take a 15-13 lead into the media break. The run continued through the timeout, stretching to 6-0, including a DePaul timeout. At the end of the run, the Orange and Brown had created a 19-13 lead.
- The momentum carried through the rest of the set as BGSU ended on a 12-5 stretch that secured the 25-18 set win to go up 2-1 for the match.
Set 4: Bowling Green 25, DePaul 21
- The fourth set began like the third with DePaul taking a 4-1 lead. The Blue Demons were able to stay in front, growing the lead to as much as 13-8, but the Falcons slowly chipped away at the lead.
- A 5-1 stretch for the Falcons tied the fourth set up at 16-16. From there the teams traded points up to a 20-20 tie when a 3-0 run pushed Bowling Green in front 22-20.
- The Orange and Brown soon closed out the set with a 3-0 run, including two Kat Mandly kills, to take the fourth set 25-21 and secure the match victory.

Falcon Stat Facts
- Jessica Andrews was a force at the net for the Falcons. Andrews logged career-bests in solo blocks and block assists with three and nine, respectively. The 12 total blocks for Andrews was just two shy of the program record for total blocks in a four set match. Her nine block assists were also two shy of the program record for block assists in a four set match.
- Jaden Walz led the Falcons in assists with 22 while also landing her first two kills of the season. Walz added a season-high 13 digs to her stat line to complete her third double-double of the season.
- Petra Indrova paced BGSU with 29 digs, setting a new career-high. Indrova previously matched her career-high earlier this weekend with 19 digs against Northern Kentucky.
