Falcon Soccer Teams Each Earn United Soccer Coaches Academic Honor

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (BGSU Strategic Communications) – The Bowling Green State University men's and women's soccer programs each have earned a national academic honor for their exemplary performances in the classroom in 2022-23. Both teams have received the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award, the USC office announced Wednesday (Aug. 16).
The USC Team Academic Award is given to soccer programs that have achieved a minimum team grade-point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Each BGSU team had a cumulative GPA well above 3.0 (above 3.60, in fact) for the 2022-23 academic year.
The men's soccer Falcons of head coach Eric Nichols had a team GPA of 3.62 in the 2022-23 academic year. Nichols' team was recognized for the 11th time in the last 14 seasons, and the men's soccer Falcons made the list for the 13th time overall.
Head coach Jimmy Walker's women's soccer program had a team GPA of 3.74 in 2022-23. The women's soccer Falcons earn the award for the 10th time overall.
A total of 801 college soccer teams (307 men, 494Â women) across all divisions earned the Team Academic Award. BGSU was one of 179 schools at all levels who had both their men's and women's programs among the recipients.
College Team Academic Award recipients are active members of the United Soccer Coaches College Services Program with a composite grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale for all players on the roster for the 2022-23 academic year.

The women's soccer Falcons open the 2023 regular-season schedule on Sunday (Aug. 20), heading to East Lansing, Mich., to meet nationally-ranked Michigan State. The men's program begins the regular season on Thursday, Aug. 24, at home vs. Cleveland State.
