Andrews, Otten And Walz Collect MAC East Weekly Honors

Andrews Named MAC East Defensive Player Of The Week, Otten And Walz Setters Of The Week
CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference announced the MAC Players of the Week Monday afternoon (Sept. 18). Of those named, Bowling Green's Jessica Andrews, Amanda Otten and Jaden Walz were all named following the weekend home-and-home sweep over Michigan. Andrews was named the MAC East Defensive Player of the Week while Otten and Walz were named the MAC East Setters of the Week. This is the third time the Falcons have received weekly awards. This is Otten's second recognition this season and her first for Setter of the Week. This marks the first for both Andrews and Walz and the fifth and fourth for their respective careers at BGSU.
For Andrews, she led a strong defense for the Falcons that resulted in 24 team blocks over the course of the weekend and 14 for Andrews alone. She began the weekend with a team-leading five block assists in the first match against the Wolverines before following it up with a season-high, and team-leading, nine in the second match against Michigan. Over the course of the two matches, Andrews added two digs and a serve receive as well.
As for the setter duo of Otten and Walz, they combined for 82 assists over the 10 sets played while adding 25 digs, 14 kills and seven block assists to their combined stat line. In the first match, Walz tallied 27 assists and nine digs, just one dig shy of a double-double. As for the second match against Michigan, it was Otten who led the way with 22 assists while adding eight kills and six digs in the match.

The Falcons will begin play within the Mid-American Conference the next time they take the court, hosting Northern Illinois for a pair of matches. Both matches will begin at 6 p.m. inside the Stroh Center with the first being played on Thursday (Sept. 21) and the second on Friday (Sept. 22). Thursday will be the Unity Match for BGVB and Friday is Dollar Night.
