Samia Becdach and Natalia Mayorga Named MAC Swimmer and Diver of the Week
November 06, 2024 | Women's Swimming & Diving
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – For the first time in nearly 1,000 days, a BGSU swimmer and diver have both been named MAC Swimmer and Diver of the Week at the same time.
Freshman swimmer Samia Becdach and sophomore diver Natalia Mayorga were each voted the MAC honor on Monday. Becdach is the first Falcon swimmer to earn the award since Taylor Harris back on February 16, 2022, and Mayorga is the first BGSU diver to receive the honor since Rayah Blood on November 22, 2023. Blood was also the MAC Diver of the Week along with Harris' MAC Swimmer of the Week back in February 2022.
Becdach and Mayorga both had stellar performances in the Falcons' dual meet in the Rubber City against the three-time defending MAC champions. In just her second collegiate meet, Becdach earned victories in the 50 and 100 freestyle events with marks of 23.60 and 51.28, respectfully. Her 50-freestyle time is the best mark of any freshman in the MAC so far this season. Mayorga qualified for NCAA Diving Zones in the three-meter dive with a score of 323.55, which tops all MAC divers. She also won the one-meter competition with a mark of 282.05 and qualified for NCAA Diving Zones in the event during the first meet of the season at Canisius.
Both will be back in the pool with the Falcons on Friday, November 8 as they take on the Hillsdale Chargers in a dual meet at Cooper Pool starting at 6:30 p.m.
