The Bowling Green State University women's basketball team will host Northern Illinois University on Saturday evening (Jan. 18), in the program's annual Play4Kay/Pink Game, to raise awareness and support for the fight against breast cancer. The Falcons are inviting Survivors, Thrivers and those standing in the gap for a loved one who is battling or has battled cancer to come to the Stroh Center for the game, which begins at 7:00 p.m.
Saturday's event will honor those affected by breast cancer, including survivors, their families, friends, and medical professionals who have supported them. Participants in the Play4Kay game will be recognized during the event, whether as survivors, in honor of loved ones lost, or as healthcare providers standing in for their patients. Those who take part will receive a commemorative t-shirt, tickets to the game, and other small gifts, including a special recognition before tip-off at center court. Join us in this meaningful event to celebrate strength, raise awareness, and support the fight against breast cancer. The registration link can be accessed by CLICKING HERE.
The BGSU players will wear special themed shooting shirts for the game. Fans interested in bidding on one of the shirts and/or making a donation to the Falcons Play4Kay fund can do so by CLICKING HERE.
All fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game.
Former North Carolina State University head women's basketball coach Kay Yow was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987, and passed away on January 24, 2009, after facing her third bout with the disease. The vision of Play4Kay came directly from Coach Yow. Through Play4Kay, she saw a way to bring communities together and honor cancer warriors in the fight against ALL cancers affecting women. Uniting players, coaches, officials and fans to do something for the greater good that far exceeds wins and losses in competition, the Play4Kay initiative aims to help change the narrative by educating, empowering and equipping the next generation with the tools needed to positively impact their family members and communities.
Our vision is to unite the community in support of women battling cancer. We aim to empower, celebrate, and showcase their strength ensuring they know they are not alone. The women's basketball team, staff, administration, students, and fans of BGSU women's basketball stand united and committed to fighting alongside all thrivers and survivors while they continue to inspire others to keep fighting.
Together, we will win and create a powerful force of resilient solidarity in the fight against cancer.
