Sophomore Breck McKinley held the puck in at the blue line and initially found junior Dalton Norris at the top of the right circle. Norris passed the puck to cycling senior Ryan O'Hara. O'Hara took a long shot from the top of the blue line that went past the screened Lake Superior State Lakers goaltender.
- To close out the first period, the Falcons would double their lead from sophomore Brody Waters, CCHA leading, 10th goal of the season, coming on the power-play. O'Hara brought the puck into the offensive zone and passed the puck over to Norris on the right side. Initially the play was broken up by a LSSU defender, but Waters picked up the puck and scored short side on the Lake State goaltender.
- Neither team would score in the second period, with the Falcons winning 12-7 in the face-off dot in the period.
- Senior Christian Stoever would make some spectacular saves down the stretch to keep the game 2-0 in favor of BGSU, before O'Hara added his second of the night on an empty-net goal at 17:16 in the third period.
