Falcons Wrap Up Pre-Season Against Dayton In Final Exhibition

Ruffin Paces Bowling Green With 20-Point Effort
DAYTON, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team concluded their preseason slate on Monday (Oct. 27) against the Dayton Flyers. The game marked the second exhibition for the Falcons after facing No. 22 Michigan State last Thursday (Oct. 23). Bowling Green took a lead into the halftime break, ahead 30-27, but the Flyers erupted in the second half to capture a 90-59 final. For the Falcons, Javon Ruffin led the way with 20 points, going a near perfect 8-of-9 from the field. Javontae Campbell added 10 points as well. Bowling Green will now shift to the regular season, opening with the first of three straight home games on Monday (Nov. 3) against Texas State at 7 p.m. inside the Stroh Center.Â

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Falcons won the opening tip, but Dayton logged a steal and score to begin the contest. Bowling Green answered with a three ball from Javontae Campbell to get on the board with a 3-2 lead.
- The early back-and-forth continued with a three for the Flyers, but a floater from Javon Ruffin answered to tie it up at 5-5. Ruffin knocked down a jumper to put the Falcons in front, but an alley oop for Dayton tied it at 7-7.
- Justin Thomas joined the scoring for the Falcons with back-to-back scores of his own, pushing the BGSU advantage to 11-7 ahead of the first media timeout.
- Coming out of the break, Dayton tallied two, but Sam Towns later answered to keep the BGSU cushion at four. The Flyers fought back with a triple to pull within one, 13-12. One at the line for Dayton tied it up at 13 at the under-12 break.
- Troy Glover II broke the tie after the timeout with a floater to put BGSU in the lead, but Dayton again matched the points. The back-and-forth continued with a put-back layup by Mayar Wol for a 17-15 lead. A dunk from Dayton tied it at 17-17, holding to the under-8 timeout.Â
- A free throw after the break gave Dayton an 18-17 lead with a layup stretching the edge. The Falcons quickly responded with a 10-0 run. Ruffin began the run with a three followed by a Glover layup. Ruffin took it from there with another three and then a layup for a 10-0 run to force a Dayton timeout with BGSU leading 27-20.
- After the timeout, Aiden Goins kept the scoring going, making one at the line for an 11-0 run. The point pushed the score to 28-20 at the final media timeout of the first half.
- Dayton made two at the line after the timeout to end the run. They later added another for a 28-23 tally. Goins ended the Dayton burst with a layup off a Wol feed for a 30-23 score before two more pairs of Flyer points at the line for a 30-27 score at the half.
- Dayton logged the first points of the second half with a three to tie the game at 30-30. A free throw soon after pushed the Flyers to a 31-30 lead, but Ruffin immediately put the Falcons back in front with a three for a 33-31 score.
- The back-and-forth continued with a Dayton layup, but Campbell sank two at the line to match. A tip-in for the Flyers again swung the score back to them, but Wol hit a three to give BGSU a 38-36 advantage. Dayton made one of two at the line to pull the gap back to one, 38-37.Â
- Campbell kept the scoring at the line going with two free throws for BGSU before a Dayton layup to make it a 40-39 tally at the first media timeout of the second half.Â
- Makhi Leach made one at the line, but a layup for Dayton tied the game up at 41-41. Leach put BGSU back in front with two at the line, but another layup for the Flyers kept it tied at 43-43. The layup for Dayton sparked a 6-0 run, jumping out to a 47-43 lead, forcing a BGSU timeout with 11:33 on the clock left in regulation.Â
- Out of the timeout, Thomas made a layup to close the gap to a possession, but Dayton sank a triple to push their lead to 50-45 with the under-12 media timeout soon following.
- Two at the line for Dayton after the break extended their lead before a layup from Towns matched the points. Towns added one at the line himself, but a three for Dayton made it a 55-48 score before another BGSU free throw, this time from Josiah Shackelford.
- The Flyers worked for back-to-back layups, stretching their lead to double-digits at 59-49 with the game pausing for the under-8 media timeout. After the break, Dayton added two more free throws for a 61-49 score and a 6-0 run.
- Towns ended the run with his first three-pointer of the game. The Flyers answered with a layup and a three of their own to push the score to 66-52. A free throw from Thomas for BGSU ended the short Flyer burst, but Dayton answered at their line with one as well.
- The free throw started a 6-0 run for Dayton, carrying the score to 72-53 with the Falcons taking their full timeout. The run continued through the break, reaching 12-0 with a 78-53 score.
- Campbell ended the run with a three, cutting into the score, 78-56, at the final media timeout of regulation.
- A 5-0 Dayton run followed the timeout before another Ruffin three for the Falcons. Three more baskets for Dayton, including a three, made it a 90-59 final.

- Javon Ruffin led the Falcons in scoring in the game, knocking down 20 points while shooting 8-of-9 from the field and 4-of-5 from three. The Falcons have now had a 20-point scorer in each exhibition after Sam Towns hit the mark against Michigan State.
- Javontae Campbell joined Ruffin in the double-digit scoring feat with 10 points while adding three rebounds and a steal for the Orange and Brown. Campbell now has reached double figures in both exhibitions.
- Justin Thomas was active around the ball in the game, leading the team in assists (4) as well as steals (3). Thomas added seven points and two rebounds to his stat line.
- Mayar Wol paced the Falcons in the rebounding category, logging a team-high five. Wol added five points and an assist to the BGSU effort.Â
- In total, all 14 Falcons that dressed for the game saw action on the court. Of the 14 that played, nine scored.Â
