Eddie George Official Names Nosal the Sole Offensive Coordinator and Spencer McCourt Quarterbacks Coach
December 31, 2025 | Football
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — The Bowling Green State University Mike and Jan Wilcox head football coach Eddie George has announced the hiring of Spencer McCourt as the Falcons' quarterbacks coach and the elevation of Greg Nosal to offensive coordinator. Nosal, who has served as co-offensive coordinator since 2022, assumed primary play-calling duties over the final three games of the 2025 season and will continue in his role as offensive line coach.
McCourt returns to Bowling Green after building a diverse and fast-rising coaching resume across the FBS, Division II and high school levels. A former BGSU graduate assistant (2019-21) who earned his MBA from Bowling Green in 2021, McCourt most recently served on staff at the Michigan as an assistant tight ends coach, where he assisted with on-field adjustments, substitutions, individual periods and defensive scout preparation. He previously worked as a graduate assistant at NC State, working with quarterbacks and wide receivers and leading individual development sessions for freshman skill players.
"We're excited to welcome Spencer McCourt back to Bowling Green," said George. "Spencer earned his MBA here and cut his teeth as a graduate assistant with the Falcons, and since then he's built an impressive coaching resume across the Division II, high school and FBS power-4 levels. He's a young coach on the rise who brings great energy to the quarterback room, and he already has a strong working relationship with Coach Nosal from their previous time together at BGSU. We're confident he'll make an immediate impact on our offense and our student-athletes."
McCourt also brings coordinator experience to the Falcon staff, having served as offensive coordinator at Belleville High School (Mich.), where his offense averaged 48.5 points per game. His collegiate background includes a stint as quarterbacks coach at DII Walsh University, along with three seasons at Bowling Green as a graduate assistant working with the offensive line, quarterbacks and wide receivers while coordinating opponent scout teams and supporting recruiting operations. McCourt played quarterback at Northwood University and was a three-time academic all-conference selection.
"Getting the call to come back to Bowling Green was a full-circle moment for me and my wife," said McCourt. "This place has always held a special place in our hearts — it's where I got my start in coaching, and the relationships I formed at this University are priceless. The opportunity that Coach George and the offensive staff have given me to lead the quarterback room is something I'm incredibly grateful for. I couldn't be more excited to get to work developing our players and competing for championships. Go Falcons!"
Nosal officially assumes the title of offensive coordinator after playing a central role in shaping Bowling Green's offensive identity since joining the program in 2020. A former offensive lineman and veteran position coach, Nosal has coached across the offense during his time in Bowling Green — beginning as running backs coach, then tight ends coach, before being elevated to co-offensive coordinator in 2022. He continues to lead the Falcons' offensive line in addition to directing the program's offensive structure and philosophy.
"I'm thrilled to officially name Greg Nosal our offensive coordinator," said George. "A former offensive lineman and our current offensive line coach, Greg understands the game from the inside out — beginning in the trenches, where championships are built. Since joining BGSU in 2020, he has helped shape our identity up front — starting as the running backs coach, then the tight ends coach, and, in his role since 2022 as co-offensive coordinator, helping oversee one of the most dominant position groups in the MAC with our tight ends. Greg is a physical, detail-oriented teacher who leads with toughness and purpose, and he represents exactly what we want Falcon football to be."
Under Nosal's guidance, Bowling Green's offensive line anchored one of the MAC's most productive offenses in 2024, providing the protection that helped quarterback Connor Bazelak deliver one of the most efficient passing seasons in program history and fuel the record-breaking campaign of tight end Harold Fannin Jr., the program's first consensus All-American. The unit's consistency continued a strong tradition of production developed during Nosal's tenure, which previously included Christian Sims earning first-team All-MAC honors in 2021 while Nosal served as tight ends coach. Most recently, tight end Jyrin Johnson earned first-team All-MAC accolades in 2025, giving BGSU its fourth first-team All-MAC tight end in five years with Nosal directing the position and/or the offense. The only year the Falcons did not produce a first-team selection (2022), Sims earned second-team honors while sharing reps with Fannin.
