Bowling Green Athletics Announces Wood County Hospital as Official Medical Provider

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Bowling Green State University Athletics has announced Wood County Hospital (WCH) as its official medical provider, effective July 1, 2025. This continued partnership with WCH enhances the level of care available to Falcon student-athletes and extends medical coverage to additional campus groups, including the Falcon Marching Band, spirit teams, and club sports.
As part of the expanded relationship, BGSU Athletics will work with a premier team of physicians that includes Dr. Drew Nowakowski, Head Team Physician, Dr. Patrick Siparsky, Orthopedic Surgeon Assistant Head Team Physician, and Dr. Carlos Gomez, Orthopedic Surgeon and Wood County Hospital Chief of Surgery. All three are fellowship trained in sports medicine, bringing expertise and leadership to the care of Falcon student-athletes. These physicians are part of a comprehensive Wood County Hospital team dedicated to supporting the health and performance of the entire BGSU community.
"The health and well-being of our student-athletes is our highest priority, and this partnership with Wood County Hospital provides us with the opportunity to continue to improve and enhance the student-athlete experience," said Derek van der Merwe, BGSU Vice President for Athletics Strategy. "Their commitment to innovation, comprehensive health services, and community-based care ensures that our student-athletes, and now many of our campus groups, will receive the very best medical support available."
The partnership also features a medical support model designed to meet a wide range of health and wellness needs. Wood County Hospital will provide expanded access to physical therapists, athletic trainers, and dietitians, ensuring comprehensive care that includes injury prevention, treatment, nutrition, and overall wellness.
"Wood County Hospital has developed a team of physicians, therapists, and athletic trainers with a track record of experience in the area of sports medicine," said Stan Korducki, Wood County Hospital President. "We are thrilled to have the opportunity to provide medical support for BGSU student-athletes and other campus student groups and are committed to excellence in this program."
Following a full RFP process, Wood County Hospital distinguished itself as the right choice to serve as the official medical provider for BGSU Athletics.
This collaboration strengthens the long-standing relationship between Bowling Green State University and Wood County Hospital, advancing a shared commitment to student success, well-being, and the health of the Bowling Green community.
