Painter also scores, while Gil & the defense keep a clean sheet
DAYTON, Ohio – Trace Terry and Bennett Painter combined for three goals, and Enzo Gil and the back line kept a clean sheet, as the Bowling Green State University men's soccer team rolled along to a 3-0 win over Wright State University on Thursday night (Aug. 28). The non-conference matchup took place at Alumni Field.
Terry scored the first two goals of the night for the Falcons (1-1-1), finding the back of the net in the 23rd minute to give the visitors the lead. After BG took that one-goal advantage into the break, Terry doubled the lead just over five minutes into the second half.
Painter added some insurance in the 62nd minute, scoring his second goal of the young season.
Painter had a three-point night, with an assist on Terry's first goal. Joshua Saavedra picked up an assist on Painter's goal, with a combination play that led to Painter's strike from outside the 18-yard box.
Gil made six saves to earn the shutout win. He has had at least six stops in each of BGSU's three matches this season to date.
Alessandro Malterer had four saves for the Raiders (0-2-0), who were credited with one 'team save' as well.
Terry was dangerous all evening, as he fired six of the Falcons' shot attempts, putting all six on goal.
The Falcons played without two starters who had received red cards in Sunday's (Aug. 24) Butler match.
